Yesterday I had a problem with the odometer and radio display barely lighting up. I went to the gas station came back out, started the car and had this happen. I turned the dimmer knob left and right and nothing and it didn't help. After about a minute of driving they popped back on like normal.

Does anyone know what could have caused this?

could be a few things, a loose connection behind the dash (have you had it apart recently?), a loose connection at the switch, a faulty switch, or BCM starting to go (unlikely, usually causes multiple issues at once)

Had somewhat similar symptoms a while ago - was going through a carwash and all the gauges suddenly went to 0, and the instrument panel lights faded/went out. I revved the engine and everything went back to normal.
I replaced the alternator (I already suspected a bad alternator as I was having problems w/ the battery running down frequently) and it never happened again.

I did replace the instrumentation cluster last year. I made sure the plug was secure. This is the only time it's ever acted up.

I replaced the alternator twice and the battery once within the last year or so. I hope it isn't another bad alternator again.

Ive seen the dimmer switch contacts get oxidized over time. Some have had luck opening it up and cleaning, others replace it.

Unfortunately its like a $100 piece

Taking the switch apart is no big deal, if your a little bit handy.

Guess I should add, I lost all my dash lights when my switch went bad.

Thank you all for the replies. I will check the switch and see if this was the problem. Hasn't happened again yet, but it'll get addressed anyway.

I replaced the headlight switch and everything is fine now. I only ended up with one extra screw when I put the dash back together this time.
