I'm so sad guys. I absolutely LOVE my '02! It has the 3.8 and only 158,000 miles on her. I have changed the fluid 3 times.

I just returned from a 20 mile drive on interstate and stop and go traffic with no issues.

I stopped to fill up and when I put the car in drive it slipped soooo bad. I managed to get home in low gear , before up shifting , where it would "catch" and get up to speed.

The , I lost steering. The belt came off. I reinstalled it, only for it to come off almost immediately after starting. I can't think of any reason the trans would do this , so I have accepted I will need a replacement..

I will replace the trans with one from a junk yard if need be. It's just the belt coming off has me puzzled? Could they be related and how?

If anyone has any ideas or suggestion, I appreciate them.
Thanks.

Depressed

I don't see how the trans problems and belt are related either. As for the belt, check the tensioner. My only guess on that.

No it's just this car is weird or the belt needs replacement i.e stretched out

issue "A" causes issue "B" "C:" and D

Fix issue A

BC and d are fine

the only reason you lose steering is because the pump is run by the belt

I had a c-10 blazer that the support for the idler cracked and the idler tilted a little allowing the belt to creep off to one side , then completely off. I would try a can of seafoam trans cleaner, make sure its trans cleaner and not engine cleaner, run it as directed and do a fluid and filter on the trans.
