Sorry I've been gone so long. Been a busy few years. Anyway, I managed to break the front bracket that holds the fuel tank heat shield on. From what I can tell, the bracket is considered part of the gas tank, and the dealership parts guy says I need a new tank. I'm not up to putting a whole paycheck towards car repairs at the moment so I thought I'd poll the experts here. Assuming they're all still here.

Usually the straps hold the shields on. I will crawl under the car and take a peak.

I finally found a solution. . .I'll try to get pics if I can remember. The brackets that hold the heat shield/deflector are part of the tank. They may not initially be molded with the tank, but they are effectively fused with it. There are three brackets with a typical push type body fastener that holds the shield on.

Only the front one broke on mine, so I got a small piece of galvanized wire and basically tied the front part of the shield to the nearest strap holding the tank. I think it was a 12 gauge, but I'm not sure...I just know its the same stuff my father in law used for his electric fence, which packs quite a punch. Rolling Eyes Laughing
