Biggest disadvantage of living in CA is that emissions is the most strict here. Of the long list available, none list or state they have an EO # before I buy any set of headers I'll ask if any fellow Californians on here have changed there exhaust, what they chose, and if they had any trouble? Any insight in regards to brand quality, installation difficulty, or reliability would be much appreciated

Are inspection stations state run? I know NY testing follows CA requirements except for the CARB issues. Even if they did, easy to get by in NY because the stations are privately owned and run and they usually overlook things.

My Monte technically wont pass NYS inspection because all of the emissions equipment is long gone. They are supposed to do a visual to make sure its all there. But most shops dont. In fact, the first year I owned the car it was inspected and the motor was still in the crate.

The inspections aren't state run here. I get my cars smogged at the GM dealership I work at. The techs do look for emissions control components that are applicable to the car based on the VECI sticker to make sure they're present, but I feel like I can ask them to select "no" when the computer asks if the car being smogged has any aftermarket parts. I'm sure they'd "overlook" the fact I have an "illegal" exhaust system

if you really hate the rules buy a pre 70s car you can do what ever you want to them since they are exempt from almost everything..

they only plugged my into a computer from the OBD2 port...
as long as the readings are acceptable range or better then it will pass...

newer cars are subject to probing i.e under 80k miles or 8 years old(10 year 100k on some brands that offer this) or less since they are covered under Federally mandated manufacture warranty and obd1 is also probed

I really depends my friend had his mustang probed '89 since it only has obd1 port ("California Edition" )

Oh I definitely plan to buy a pre 70's car, just not soon because I have my Impala I'm working on at the moment Laughing

Here in Cali, at least my area, cars that are 2000 and newer are tested using the OBDII port only. Older cars including 96-99 OBDII are probed
