Well, this seems like a hot topic this winter: after months of buying and debating and replacing and finally fabricating (today), I too have new exhaust and it is finally finished.

So where do I begin? Well back in November I snagged a zzp 2.5 catted downpipe back on black friday (%40 off), then about a month ago I got the 2.5 catback (with resonator) from zzp to go along with it as well. However... it was waaayyy too loud for my taste. The mufflers included in the catback are the problem, if anyone else on here is interested. I will touch on that further in. The setup also had a couple other issues. (This is the dual exhaust monte carlo cat back on zzp's site that I am referring to). For one, the whole set comes polished stainless steel except the pipe that runs from the y-split to the left muffler. This led to some confusion on whether or not it was stainless steel, and had me e-mailing zzp to confirm that it was indeed stainless steel, just not polished. Two, it doesn't fit all that great- zzp told me that it is basically the grand prix system just modified with that unpolished piece bent to fit the monte carlo/impala so this resulted in it not sitting centered in place under the car and would knock the floor on uneven ground. Back to the mufflers, if anyone is interested in doing their exhaust and don't want it to be very loud, don't get the zzp catback! It's mufflers are crazy loud. Like so loud you can't even talk to someone in the car loud on acceleration. Also the DRONE is annoying as hell too, and with this being my daily driver I said F that.

So finally today, I returned to my mechanic shop to have this all straightened out. I had the zzp mufflers replaced with Dynomax VT's (highly recommend) the exhaust fabricated to fit straighter and higher/closer as well. Love the VT's almost like stock except with a little rumble on demand. No drone. Stainless. Perfect. I uploaded a video for anyone interested:

Sounds similar to what my GMPP exhaust sounded like.

I noticed you did a zzp powerlog. Worth doing? Getting close to dropping pulley size, and notice that helps with KR.

Anything you can do to help lower the temps of those front cylinders, the better. If you don't do headers, get the P-Log!!

Not a ton, honestly. The downpipe helps some, but would probably help more if it was a 3". I went 2.5 to make sure it wasn't too loud. If you're looking for a good muffler that's not annoying, I strongly recommend dynomax vt's.
