Never had them in my car, but my neighbor did...

IMO, and my neighbor's opinion, the stock headlights shine farther and brighter..

My 2 Cents upgrade stock bulbs or go HID route... the projectors are too expensive for the quality that I've seen

I was under the assumption that you needed projectors for HIDs. Otherwise the stock reflective housings will shine the light every which way but loose.

I just put Silverstar bulbs in my car and they work well for me. Also you can build your own projectors if you wanted. A member here Hemi do so a while back.

I was considering projectors for my car until I was talked out of them. Heard they aren't too great of an improvement. Like grape said it's better to upgrade stock or get HID'S. My friend showed me his 6000k HID set up last night and his low beams are bright white and illuminate more than both my high and low beams together. We parked side by side and the difference was unbelievable. Enough that I'm buying them instead of Sylvania ultras I planned to buy.

Stock housings arent designed for HIDs. Will they work, yes, are they efficient at getting light where its supposed to, no.

Aftermarket projector housings are junk. Not just on the Impala, but across all makes / models.

Make sure your lenses are clear and install a quality bulb. Not a crap high wattage bulb that will fry your harness

Does this apply to all cars and if so, what housing do you recommend buying if I go with HID'S, Pitch Black SS? The friend I referred to had his stock housing and the clarity and side visibility was amazing with a good focus point.

Yes, unless it came from the factory with HID, the housings are designed to work with the halogen bulb it came with (output, wattage, shape)

If the beam pattern is different that with the OEM bulbs, then the housing isnt working right with the HID. Thats why a 35 watt aftermarket HID will cause glare to oncoming drivers and a 35 watt OEM bulb wont.

not looking to be the police here, but all aftermarket HID kits are illegal (not DOT approved)

Makes sense now. I know several friends that have had HID's for some time now and no trouble with the law, but I know that doesn't mean it won't happen. There's a local place in town I'll stop by for a 6000 kit. I'll think of your warning when/if I get pulled over for hid's, Pitch Laughing

Especially if you blind everyone on the road in the oncoming lane like all cars with HIDs do. Laughing

I've seen that as well. I think it's a teenager thing. Laughing They might as well be driving with no headlights on.

Can confirm. Have two friends that have purple ish light, admitted they have terrible visibility at night, in rain and fog. Asked myself what was the point of buying purple lights? Rolling Eyes

HIDs is 1 of the 2 options my 300 is missing. I would like to add them but going factory is a royal pain. Refuse to buy the aftermarket crap, too many issues. There used to be high end kits out there but now they just repackage Chinese stuff and sell for higher.

All the aftermarket stuff is basically the same kit, just different stickers and boxes
