So the main reason I held off on doing this was because I forgot to buy the mounting bracket which I had to drive over an hour to get. I finally had time in my schedule to go back and get one and bought another overhead console that didn't have the sunroof switch (bc I don't have one) too. I decided to take on the task now or else I'd keep procrastinating. Removal of many trim parts and anything on the headliner is necessary to take the headliner off. Then I used the template that BBEngineer provides on his website to cut out the hole and mount the console with the bracket. After that it was just a matter of tucking in the new harness alongside the old one and reassemble everything. I did not have a step by step in mind but if people ask for one I could type one up. Here are some pictures I took:
Harness in its entirety. This harness, from an LS, has the connectors for lighted vanity mirrors and rear grip handles which I plan to add in the future

The two connectors that will need to be plugged in (hard to capture, but they are easily found)

Headliner dropped with console and bracket mounted

Some of the modes being switched through to show full funcion

It can be done, not too difficult of a mod to do, but I have torn down my car's interior several times so that makes a biased comment. To somebody who hasn't done this type of work before, I'd give the difficulty rating around a 6-7 out of 10 where 10 is near impossible. Nice feature to have in a Base model for those that would like to add this

EDIT: It just hit me that I should have made this post in the Interior/Exterior mod section Confused

Base, you're making my jealous now! I want this in my base. I think I will hold off I atm though. Since it was rear ended and totaled by the ins (everything runs in top notch) I think I'll pick up another Impala (same gen) - maybe even get an LS with all that already.

Had I planned to buy an Impala, I would've definitely looked for an LS or SS of this gen. But I needed a new car quick and I stumbled across my current imp. Now that I know what I'm missing out on, I'm adding all the LS options just because I can Laughing It'd be best to save time, labor, and money by getting an LS

Ditto. I bought mine in January 2008 (it's an 05) so it was still pricey. Paid $5400 TTL and I have gotten every penny's worth on it. I got $3500 in June 2014 from the insurance when it got hit and a valuation to send it to the junkyard for about $4600 if I gave it to them; but I kept it.

I was pretty happy with that and again it's drivable and usable (minus the trunk and rear passenger door [but I have subs anyway so trunk is only half usable])

Edit: bought at 65k miles and now its somewhere around 150k (mileage shows 175k because cluster swap)

These cars are pretty enjoyable Laughing I got mine with 75k miles in 2012, now has 99k. I made sure to make the original cluster read what the current 4 gauge cluster had to match before I swapped them. Think I might've been off by a mile, damn lol. I also have a sub, since then, rarely does anything go back there Razz
