02 impala 3.8 liter. Went to leave for work this morning and car started and idled fine. Let the car warm up a bit while I got ready. Went to leave, put car in reverse and nothing. Put car in drive, and nothing. The car felt like it went into gear and even the tachometer dropped a couple hundred rpms while selecting gears. I shut the car off and restarted it. The car shifted into reverse and moved. Then I selected drive and it moved. I drive it around the parking lot a few times and everything seemed fine. Shifted into reverse and backed up, shifted into drive and nothing. I restarted the car and could do everything all over again. I didn't road test the car due to a snow storm I didn't need the car sitting along side the road.

Just wanting to pick brains for ideas?
Fluid level is okay and the color and smell is okay also.

It's weird because the feel of the car and the tachometer says is going into gear just no movement until restarted then it'll drive until I cycle from drive to reverse then back to drive and then no movement. Once restarted though everything seems fine until I cycle gears again?
