Highway fuel economy based on driver information center dropped from 30 mpg to 24 mpg.

Using 87 octane as usual.

Driving habits are gentle, I don't put my foot in it.

Thanks.

i can get 30+ in my 04 ss if i dont speed lol. but normaly going 70 i get 26 going to work if im on a long drive on the highway its up to 30. but i was getting cheap gas at southern states they keep .01 below the local shell. and on every Thursday shell is .05 cheaper but with southern states my normal from 26 dropped to 19. changed plugs wires still same deal, went to royal farms it went back to 26 after the cheap gas burnt off

Calculate the mileage manually, dont rely on the DIC. It isnt known to be very accurate

With age, the car can start having lazy sensors. Particularly the O2 sensors. Id start there along with a proper throttle body cleaning and MAF (Mass Air Flow) cleaning. Could also be a lazy MAF or IAC (Idle Air Controller)

If you recently had a tune up performed, make sure they or you used AC Delco parts. These cars DO NOT like aftermarket wires and plugs. They can greatly affect mileage

i dont know why but my fuel used is usually 2 or 3 gallons under what i really use according to the dic. but my mpgs are right on. i dont think the fuel used calculates idle fuel consumption

I find the accuracy has increased after installing a new gas cap & cat
it makes a popping noise, a vacuum popping nose it means I have a perfect seal with no leak as before it never made that noise. i'm sure I was losing gas because of the bad seal on it
(HAD gas cap code)

like when you open a jar of salsa or pickle jar, that is the sound I'm talking about.

I'm with in 0.1 +- gallon of what the DIC says
on a normal day.

on a non-normal day i.e windy it can be upto 1 gallon off as you waste twice as much gas. and the calculator does not account for it

i'm only getting 23-25mpg
Damn you winter gas
