Do I need a Engine crane to hold the engine?

since the wishbones have to be removed I don't want to damage the engine or have premature ejection of the engine to the ground

Just remove the dog bones. They don't support any weight.

engine is held in by the lower mounts. Uppers just control the rocking due to it being transverse mounted.
