So after doing my front hubs, I'm hearing an occasional clicking from the front end at low speeds. I'm assuming it's my CV joints checking out (170k mi on the car).

I didn't have a lot of trouble getting the axle backed out through the hubs when replacing them, but here's my dumb question: How do I detach the other end of the axles from the transmission? I'm in the south so I don't have a lot of rust to deal with.

Thanks!

Gently place a pry bar against the transmission case and then pop the axle out of the transmission. It'll drip a little bit of fluid, so make sure you have a pan under it.

Creaking could also be your strut mounts, it could be that the anti sway bar bushings are dry. Spray some silicone on the anti sway bar bushings on the cradle see if that helps.

Is the trans case made out of aluminuminum?

I got so sick of trying to pry the drivers side axle out of my old transmission (to do an engine and tranny swap) that I pried so hard that the entire output shaft popped out. I tapped on the axle with a hammer and everything...the ring on the axle just wouldn't release.

I don't think I broke the housing but since I was doing a swap and selling it I really didn't care.
