1) My shift indicator and stereo display are sometimes very dim. Almost unreadable.
After I drive for a bit, sometimes 10 minutes, sometimes half-an-hour, they'll brighten up to their usual brilliance.

What's going on here?

2) Whenever I make a right turn, my left front wheel/axle makes a chittering squeak. Nothing when I turn left.
Possible wheel bearing?
(A guy who heard it said it's a "twenty dollar fix")

3) On dips and speedbumps, both sides on the front end creak.
This is probably a non-issue, as I plan on spending a few hundred on the whole front suspension.
So - how much should I set aside?

4) Getting a new used tranny, because on many takeoffs, the car will lag - I'll give it a little gas, while it creeps forward a foot or two - probably just torque convertor energy - then 1st gear will hook up and jolt, almost like popping the clutch on a manual.
Should I continue with the tranny swap?

TIA Very Happy

1 - could be a bad dimmer switch

2 - CV joint, they usually clunk and chatter. Hub/bearing usually squeak

3 - try some grease in the fittings, may just be dry.

4 - with the track record of the 4T65E, I'd never buy a junk yard trans. A used inspected, warrantied piece from a shop? probably, but not a junker. Not sure where yours is coming from or what you're paying.

Yes, tranny inspected and all that. Not straight from a yard. But not rebuilt, either.
Running about $700.

Not sure where your located but for ab out 400 -500 more I think that can get you into a TEP. I am not sure if the price went up. but those transmissions are usually among the indestructible.

Damn, I wish they had that option when my transmission blew up the first time...

Crap - before I knew about this, a few weeks ago I told them to go ahead and get the used tranny.
They cannot return it.
So since I'm on the hook for it, I guess I'll be going with the one they got. But it does come with a "works or we'll replace it" guarantee.
