Hey guys, First post so go easy on me.

I am looking at doing a pan drop on my 2001 impala 3.8L w/ 4T65E and was looking into trans fluid.

Looks like GM replaced the Dex III with the new improved Dex VI, which is backward compatible... so everyone is saying go with Dex VI.

HOWEVER, I know that the GM Allison transmissions directly advise against using Dex VI because it will harden your viton seals and o'rings. Same goes with the T56 transmissions.

Has anyone had any leaking issues after switching from Dex II to Dex VI?

Thanks guys.

No leaks here. Did it on two cars and have about 80k miles between the two of them after the change. No side effects.

I switched from 3 to 6 two years ago, & haven't had any problems. Just because it's not recommended in Allison trannys means nothing for the 4T65E, as 6 is used in the 06 cars & newer. Here, the 3 goes for $1 a qt less, but in my case I did a pan drop & filter/fluid change, & a flush a month later using Dex 6. GARY

ok, thanks for the info gents!

I will be doing a pan drop shortly, should I bother doing a flush at the same time?
is there an easy way to do this on my own without specialy tooling?

Many thanks.

dont flush. I can cause particles to become dislodged and cause premature trans failure.

Some flush without a problem, but its not a chance worth taking.

BTW, no manufacturer suggests a flush, only the shops that spent all the $$ on the machine

Maybe a little off topic, but maybe helpful. I used Lucas Oil Multi-Vehicle ATF
http://lucasoil.com/products/p.....ehicle-atf
on my last tranny fluid/filter change. I had the occasional "park to drive lag" and it doesnt seem to help it much, vs regular Dex 6. Has anyone else tried this? I love most Lucas products but I've been unsure about this, since our trannies are weak to begin with! Just throwing it out there Wink

There were a few posts with people who switched to Dex 6 and now had the hard shifting, and they switched back to 3 and had no problems. I went with the Dex 6 club, and could see no difference. The next time around I will go back to 3.

I switched out to Dex4 in my 03 Safari, the 03 Imp and my 84 MonteSS over the last 3 years. Bunch of miles and no issues thus far.

The van has a blend of 3 &4 both cars have a full pan & TC of 4.
