My new '04 has an antenna stuck to the rear glass as seen in the picture. I'm guessing it has to do with the On Star box in the trunk?
I'd like to tint the rear window and the antenna box/wiring on the inside of the glass is in the way.

I'm not interested in subscribing to OnStar since I have a Cell Phone... can I just scrape this antenna off the glass or does the wiring pass thru the glass? I don't want to take it off if theres going to be a hole under it. Shocked

It looks pretty loose... but still secure.

Unless there's a reason I should keep it on there... ?

It'll come right off with a bit of dental floss or fishing line. It doesn't pass through the glass at all. You'll just need to tuck a wire from the inside of the antenna under the headliner and you'll be set to go.

No problem. You are also going to want to have some Goo Gone on hand to care of the adhesive residue that will be left behind.

dont use anything sharp, you'll either scratch the glass or destroy a defroster / antenna line, or both

Thanks for spelling that out for me. Laughing I was dancing around it without actually saying nothing sharp.

What about us 2005 guys with the antenna on the roof? Is it bolted on or what?

Yep...one bolt and two holes. Drop the headliner, disconnect the wires a few inches down from the antenna, remove the bolt, press the metal retaining tabs in, and you can push the antenna out from the inside.

You will probably want to find a way to seal the holes though. Wink

Thanks! I do a lot better when my tools aren't sharp, that way they match the operator. Laughing
I got the outside portion removed with some fishing line and WD-40. WD-40 is one of my favorite decal/sticky removers.
Man they could assemble the space shuttle with the glue they use to adhere this antenna. Rolling Eyes
Inside portion is next... once it cools off a little outside. I have to wait for nicer temps or I'm going to end up cooked like one of those bugs in the back widow tray. Embarassed

I would park it with the back window facing the sun for a few hours on a warm day to help soften up the adhesive, then park it in the shade to do the removal. Work smarter, not harder. Wink

Im With Stupid That's how I did it. It was nice and toasty in a black car with black leather, but the adhesive came right off.
