Just picked up a 2004 LS.

In the day time, all interior lights work fine. When the headlights turn on at dusk, all gauge lights go out, the odometer dims to just a faint glow and the radio and temp control lights ALL go out.

Is there a fuse that controls all of these? Would bad cluster lights make the radio and climate control lights go out???

At the risk of making you feel stupid, have you made sure the headlight switch isn't turned to the dim setting? That would certainly cause what you are explaining.

Yes the symptom is the same even when rotating the dial of the pull-switch. Maybe a bad switch?
I had bbengineer replace lights and fixed the vacuum fluorescent display I had in my other impala cluster but I don't remember all of the other lights being affected like this I might replaced the switch.
Is there one fuse for all those lights?

dimmer switch is probably broke I have one you can have for free if you want it

if you have fog lights option you will have to remove the swtich and put it on your assembly since this is W/O fog

Ah thx. I DO have fog lights.

I just realized something new today with the blinker control arm.... I can't click the bright lights on. If I hold it in position, the brights come on, but it doesn't 'click' on/off.

Could THAT be the cause of the dash light issues or is it non related?

I have this problem with my 05 in that I have to hold the lever to keep the hi beams on, but everything else works fine. Since I never drive with the hi beams on unless to "Flash" somebody I never tried to fix the issue. GARY

That's a bad multifunction switch. I had the same problem and mentality, until it went out completely and left me with no exterior lights at all... just be aware that you could be in a similar situation at some point.

Probably 2 separate issues, I dont see a tie-in between the 2

High beams is a bad MFS (multi-function switch) and is an expensive and time consuming repair

Dash lights is a bad headlight switch, not very expensive and relatively easy to change

I sent a pm the other day. .. not sure if I actually sent it. It's in my outbox, not my sent box. (What's the difference?)
Just wondering if you received it or if I have to do something to send it from my outbox to the sent box.

UPDATE:
I replaced the MFS (multifunction switch) and that fixed the bright light switch. It looks nice having a new CLEAN blinker arm sticking out of the steering column. Very Happy

Thanks again for the help.

Dimmer switch will be next.

Does the whole upper dash panel need to come out to replace the headlight switch or can it be changed by removing the lower dash panel?

The entire panel will need to come out. There are 2 or 3 bolts under it that secure the headlight switch to the dash.
