2003 Chevrolet Impala

So it all starts about 5 years ago. In a state far away.... i had bought a new HU for the 2003 impala and since i didn't know much about the car yet, I had it professionally installed. (Oh the things I have learned over the years) After it was installed the door chime was louder and every time I started the car there was an absolutely horrid teeth clenching sound that lasted about 5 seconds (unless i buckled up before starting) I just recently took out the HU as I'm installing a new amp, door speakers and awaiting a new HU, and I found the culprit. It's an aftermarket door chime (blue box, I forget the specific part number) that is wired into the wire harness adapter. My question is if I can just cut it out and cap the wires or will that cause issues with the car? I'd rather have no door chimes than hear that sound any more. The car was equipped with the 2 ohm speakers and stock amp no on-star.

I believe that the "blue box" is a Bosch wiring harness. It is used to keep door chimes and alert messages such as your gas light coming on, oil change notice, and any other chime the car uses. I think, but not sure, if you get rid of the box, you will lose all chimes. This is because the chimes ran through the stock head unit, now that you went after market you needed another source for the chimes. I may be pulling all this out my ass, but i thought that was right. I knew this stuff in 2007 when i redid all my audio.

i do believe that too is what dings for the other caution and warning chimes that coincide with the light on the cluster. My concern is that i seen one wire that was labeled ignition and I'm not sure what cutting and capping the wires will do to the system. if I'm forced to live with it then so be it. I'll just figure some way to muffle the sound.

Tape over the speaker would work.

Some of those chime retention harnesses have a jumper (or a wire you cut) that can lower the volume of the noise. It's worth taking a look at it.

So I wasn't sure if I could cut any of the wires to make it quieter nor could I find anything useful looking up the product part number. So I took it apart and....dampened the speaker. LOL Now I still will have the door chimes and yet it won't be screaming at me. Laughing
