I can get one (used) with fuel rails, injectors, belts, throttle body, lower intake from a 3800 series II for $150. Should I take it?

Its a good price but the condition of it counts. Nightryder could probably give you some decent knowledge on what to look for if your buying a used one.

You want to check for shaft play on the snout and wobble in the rotors. These things would require the bearings to be replaced. A bearing job is probably a good idea anyway considering most m90s at the j-yards are going on 10 years old. Also, check the surfaces of the rotors for nicks. The more bare metal that is showing, the harder time the compressor will have compressing the air. The rotors are typically covered in a film of oil and grime. Their natural color is light gray and underneath that is the bare metal.

Thanx for the info. It's off of a 98 GranPrixSTP w/100K on it.

Also found one at the junkyard today,on a 98 GP,but they want $120 just for the Supercharger and I'd have to pull it. Rolling Eyes

Top swapping is fun but its really not worth it. I sold my Impala 2 weeks after I finished the supercharging. Better off just to buy something already faster. (C5 Corvette Wink )

I didn't have trouble at all letting go of the Monte... wish I would have done it before it depleted my down payment money and stuck me with a damn Malibu.

I had all the parts to do the top swap sitting in my garage less a few gaskets and bolts. I sold all the parts shortly after getting the STI. Nothing against the car or the idea of top swapping, but I didn't want my daily driver being a project car. The w-body has enough nagging little issues that keep me busy.

Common sense tells me to back off of the idea(s),but that lil' bug keeps biting me. Shocked

There's a good chance I can get the package for $100.

I know I pretty much already asked, but whaddya think?

I guess it comes down to how much more $ I'd have to cough up to get it right all the way through...mainly,parts.
Labor costs I can deal with as I have a great neighbor with all the tools and knowledge needed.

Thanx

Pass. Keep your DD a reliable DD. If you want a go fast toy,.. buy a go fast toy.

Honestly, the longer I keep my Impala, the more parts I keep returning to stock.
stock tune due to ghost white spark plugs
    stock headlamps assemblies
removed HID kit due to random electrical glitches
    removed HV3
    removed poly dog bone bushings
    considering removing lowering springs

Well stated ZSPOT. I have found over the years, the more you customize a DD, the more problems it invites. Even though my 2010 LTZ is not a DD, it remains OEM stock except for the Overkill tune, Hella bulbs for the front lamps, and the GMPP STBs. And of course, you know the deal on the 9C3!
