Hey guys been a while (about 2 1/2 years). Wife told me I could get another SS. Trying to find one in the midwest. If yall can help me find one for around $5k that would be nice. Found a couple but there to far away. Thanks guys.

UPDATE: Drove 250 miles last night to get a 98 Regal GS with 125k miles in a dark green color. Nothing wrong with car. Only paid $3200 for it. Will Get pictures up as soon as I can find my camera.

would love to have another SS, but with the budget the wife gave me ( $5K) dont think I will be able to get yours Sauce. Plus the nearest one I found under $5K is down in Texas with 170K on it. Been looking into Regal GS' as well. Found a regal LS with the gs swap for $3500 not far from here.

Here is the add.......
http://topeka.craigslist.org/cto/4310755563.html

I have never seen this car on any o the other forums, but it looks like he did everything right and spent well over $5K on the setup he describes. What do yall think?

With a budget that low and looking into modded cars of questionable origin, you really need to have a lot of money in reserve to fix the inevitable problems you are going to run into (likely in short order). You'd be better off buying Sauces car that has been meticulously maintained by two owners on this forum and has relatively low mileage.

As far as that Regal goes, I'd be hesitant to buy any car with a home-built transmission unless you know they are competent. Also, I have no idea what KYB stage 2 struts are...

yeah, his verbiage isnt on par with someone mechanically advanced enough to build a transmission. If I had that much wrench time and $$$ into a car I would know exactly what parts are on it and not get names and descriptions wrong.

Plus it has hail damage

Would love to have Sauce's car but its out of our budget. Were looking to spend $5K max on one and it will be cash because we don't want another car payment.

I understand, but take it from someone who drove multiple W-bodies over the last 12 years. Getting a decade old one with 150K plus miles on it will turn into a money put quickly, especially if you don't know the history of the car that is likely to have been beaten on. A 5k SS could easily become an 8k car once a few things go to crap...

To be clear, I'm not trying to talk you out of an SS, I'm simply urging you to be smart about the purchase.

I know, that's why I am trying to find one under 150k miles. Only problem is nearest ones are over 500 miles away from where I am at so I would have to spend at least a couple more hundred in gas to go get it. ( The caddy isent fuel friendly). I want another SS though, would love another Indy but will settle for just the SS if I can find one. Wife said no other w-body's but a SS.

Just wanted to let you know about these SS's. Mine isn't for sale but Ive had numerous people ask me about it. With just under 170k miles on it my SS is a pretty strong car. I'm the original owner with all records on it. My son turns 17 soon and this will be his first car. If you can find a high mileage well taken care of SS you may be able to hit the lottery. These cars are quite reliable with a couple if weak links..trans, brakes etc. don't let mileage scare ya if there's documentation behind it.

The problem is cars like that are incredibly rare. Few people keep detailed records anymore (at least in my experience when I was replacing the Monte Carlo)...

The only thing that worries me about a high mileage car is the transmission. I am not really worried about the engine because i can have the heads off of it in an hour to check the internals. If I can find on with higher miles I am hoping that it was a family person who owned one that is not modded in anyway. That way I at least know they did not try to do the pulley drop without upgrading the headers.

Yup...tranny is a weak link. Mine was changed and Im covered till 212k miles on it. Long story but my dealer worked well for me. Even the service writers and technicians in the shop always ask me if Im selling it. No need to...as I said my son is going to get it next. Cars like mine are out there...you just have to search them down from private owners. Good luck with the hunt!!!!

Found a 98 Monte Carlo Z34 in good shape for a cheap price, the only thing wrong is clear coat is peeling on rear 1/4 panel. Thinking about just getting this and top swapping it. was always a fan of the 98+ MC Z34's.
