So the girlfriend and I are starting to plan our vacation for June/July. We're thinking of doing something both of us have always wanted and that's road tripping. I'd like to fly to lax, rent a car and drive from there to Iowa/Missouri area to visit family then drive back. I've though about it quite a bit, i think it would take about a week and travel across thru Colorado. Spend a week and a half seeing family and friends. Then 3-4 days driving back thru the lower states. I'm really just looking for suggestions on what to see on our way out there and back. I've never seen any of those states. We want to see San Francisco for sure and also the grand canyon. I think Yosemite national park would be neat. Any suggestions? What you've seen or want to see?
Any input is appreciated.
Thanks!

Route 66, need I say more?

Lots of Missouri sites to see (six different highways).
http://www.ask.com/wiki/U.S._Route_66

Its easy to look up Route 66 & find current maps.

A little more east/southeast would be the Corvette Museum in Bowling Green, KY. They also have a great dragstrip nearby, but the Vett Museum, wow. Also some strange caves nearby to explore when you get tired of looking at cars (Mammoth Caves)!

Just some ideas. I've cruised the east end of Route 66 & been to the Vette Museum & the caves, worth every second!

I'll do some research on 66 and see what's along it. We won't be going that far east this year, and don't really plan on seeing much in Missouri because we've been there several times, that time is just to see friends and family, and a majority of the attractions we want to see is on the way there and back. This is gonna take a lot of searching and planning but I figured I'd see if you guys have anyplaces you'd recommend seeing along the way. I wish there was a map with all us points of interest on it. I haven't found one yet

Haha, we'd like to see the US before we go anywhere else. Have you lived there since you've been on the forum? I don't recall seeing that lol

I'd go to Yellowstone before it destroys us all.

Somewhere visually magnificent.
