Now, before I get started, I will let it be known that I have not taken the car to a mechanic, I just want to know if it is worth it! Laughing

My car has been having a starting issue, at first, it was a hot start issue with the car requiring several turns of the key and a pump of the gas pedal, to remain starting. Then it started to do it all the time. Well, last Friday, I was at Menards and I tried to start the car and it had a hard time keeping running and it would just die on me. I tried this several times and was able to get the car moving when it died on me again and again. Finally the car started to surge and die on me for about 1 minute before the car engine shook and a puff of smoke came from the engine compartment, I did not see where as I was behind the wheel. Well, I know that the fuel pump was going out and may have been the first issue, but I changed my fuel filter about two days before and the pump was due to arrive the next day. Guess I should not have driven the car, but oh well, what's done is done.

So, I get a brand new fuel pump and installed it with no issues. I turn on the key and I hear the pump ( as I did not put back the rear seat ) and prime the car to run by turning on and off the key three times. Then I go to START the car and I hear the starter motor engage and .... the engine does not turn over. The sound I hear was a quick thunk and the motor does NOT turn over... I tried a couple more times and nothing happens. I get out the breaker bar and a socket and I can turn the crankshaft nut to move the engine, to a point where my big torque wrench pops at 90 ft lbs. I check the battery, it is low, and I charge it, try again, nothing happens, I check the ignition control module and the coils, all good there.

I think my engine has seized..... DOH!

So is it worth it to take it to a mechanic and rebuild or get a new engine ?

Depends on how much its gonna cost, but my inclination is to say no. Probably time to send it out to pasture and get something else.

I'm with Iffy. If it's to the point of not starting and you're not capable of swapping motors on your own, I'd say it's time to go car shopping.

time to look for another car to swap my parts to ! And it looks like I found one ! A 2004 Grand Prix with 140,000 miles. I just bought wheels, tires, brakes, a brand new fuel pump, front and rear disks, and several other parts that I can swap. Looks like I have some wrenching to do soon ! Laughing

have you been having any cooling issues. could be hydro locked. pull spark plugs see if coolant comes out. Cool

Purchased a 2005 Grand Prix with the Series III 3.8, so I'm good with transportation. But what I have found out about my car since then....

I pulled the air filter and noticed it was soaked with gas...

I still cant turn the engine with the breaker bar and socket on the crankshaft nut, when I turn over the engine it does not move.

Something bad must have happened, but it's all good, it was a good car while I drove it, a 9c1 with 255,000 on it!

Um, you might have gotten lucky. Pull the plugs and I bet it will crank over. I bet the intake went and it filled up one of your cylinders.
