I have done the security pass lock using resistors. I used my OBD ll scanner and showed no codes. I tried to get my bcm out so I could check contacts for problems but could not get it pass a steering column brace. I can't see that said brace can be removed. Anybody have the secret to the removal of the BCM in a 2002 impala? Security light still on but car starts up and has never stalled.

Put the front seat back all the way, the steering wheel all the way up, and get down on the floor with your arms up under the dash. The only way to do it is to be a human pretzel.

If you're disconnecting the BCM, make sure the negative battery cable is disconnected first.

Thanks for the reply. Being a senior citizen the human pretzel idea brings visions of severe pain, paramedics and jaws of life. Is it possible to disconnect the cables to gain a little maneuverability. I tried squeezing the upper and lower tabs to release the connector but cannot get the cables to budge so I'm wondering if that's how the connector works.

IIRC there is a single tab on the top or bottom of the connector, rather than the one on the sides. It has been more than five years since I have had to change mine.

Thanks with a little pressure in the joint with a screw driver and depressing the bottom tab I got all of the cables detached and was able to get the BCM out. Now I will take it to my friend the computer solder joint expert to look at all the solder joints and check them for good or bad solder joints. If all of them are good or repaired I will reconnect the BCM backup to see if my security light is still on. If off HOORAY! If not I will check out a tech that can scan my old BCM for codes and program a new BCM that I will install if needed. THANKS for your help

FWIW, if there is anything you can see visibly wrong with the BCM (bad joints, dark spots, etc), it's usually toast.
