I haven't disappeared off the planet. YET! Just too much going on Asian girlfriend keeping me busy, which reminds me she wants oil changed in her tacoma. The '06 impala just fine. Except getting ready to take driver's door panel off to see if speaker is bad or loose connection. I have no door chimes. And no sound from that speaker. And I am in final stages of remodeling. We are getting ready to build 30' x 30' garage within next week. But about a week after my birthday. Dad was working in yard, Trying to keep active and he came in and went to McD's. then about and hour or so later he came back and took nap, while i fixed supper. He got up ate a little and then said something that didn't make sense and i couldn't understand him. He was slurring words. I was concerned and then he started to watch judge judy and said something again and slurred his words. I told him "i'm taking you to hospital, your not making any sense and you are slurring your words." He got in car and he said to take him to the VA about 30 miles away. The '06 impala got us there in 20 min. and that was Friday between 4:50pm-5:10 pm so we were in traffic (You have to love the people in hammer lane that are either sleeping or day dreaming and not even doing the speed limit.)By the time i got him there the nurses couldn't get him to answer them. He was lethargic and not responding to verbal requests. I knew at home it was a stroke and the nurses confirmed my diagnosis. But VA was unequipped but the did catscan and xray and transferred him to Saint Vincent. I was scared. I got to Saint Vincents about 10 min. after ambulance transferred him and by the time nurse took me to him he was talking. I asked him "Do you remember what you had to drink at McDonalds ?" and he replied "strawberry milkshake" Dad is doing better it seems to have been a stroke which people come back pretty quick. Unlike my Dad's friend on the next street, he had a stroke back in March and was in hospital and rehab for 100 days. And here is something weird Dad and his friend were talking and his friend just about 5 hrs before his stroke had a strawberry milkshake at McDonalds. Shocked But Dad is doing pretty good and I will be adding a handicap ramp from back door to the garage. But he is crotchety lately, but partly because he has cataracts and have to wait 30 days since stroke to get them taken care of, so in meantime i'm driving him to doctors appts.

Hey, don't think we met on here yet. Been around for about 3 or 2 years. Sorry about what happened but very glad that your dad is doing okay. As for the McDonald's thing... Freaky. I need to stop eating there!

I don't think i have had pleasure of seeing you on here before. I use to be on here a lot but after Mom passed away in Dec. 2007 i have to be the one taking care of DAD and house. And walking a Siberian husky and japanese akita everyday, taking care of Asian girlfriend who is bossy and who wants everything done now. And of course trying to get the rest of remodeling done, lawn mowing. I don't have time for even a good drink anymore. Very Happy

Catching them in time is key. My Dad has had 4 in the past 3 years. Thankfully they have all been minor. First one wasnt caught fast enough and he still has ongoing issues from it. The other we knew what we were looking for and got him right to the hospital, which for us is only about 4 miles away.

I too have added a ramp on the deck and played chauffeur for him for a long time.

Glad hes recovering, give him my best

Sorry to hear that, good he is still healthy enough to be crochety Very Happy

My grandfather had a number of strokes over the course of a few years and wasn't himself at all before he passed, very sad to see when you don't catch them soon enough.

glad to hear you caught it that fast. time is your enemy with strokes. my mom is in a wheelchair from a construction accident back in 97 and dad is getting old fast due to Parkinson, the doctors kept thinking it was lymes disease. but after years of not getting better one doctor finally saw the true cause of his problems, now hes out touring the states. they both are in their 50s mom is to hardheaded for someone to tell her she cant do anything, she lost her leg in the accident and the other was damaged bad. but try to tell her she cant do something she will still think your full of it lol. she just wanted to adopt a couple second cousins cause their mom and dad are crack heads. tried to tell her their aunt could do it but her heart wanted to help

Thanks everyone, i will give DAD your best. He is doing great little problem will speech when he gets tired but otherwise speech is almost back ot normal, and he notices a little problem remembering certain things. He has to stop and think. Sometimes he remembers and sometimes he doesn't until i help him and then gets a little upset when he couldn't remember. He's suppose to relax but he wants to be on the go so every time i take off he wants to ride along just to get out of house even though he just stays in car most of the time. He's still crotchety Laughing but he's doing better, he has his appt. for one eye to have cataracts for 9-11-13 and 9-25-13 for the other eye. We are getting ready to have a 30' W x 24" length garage built and it will be added to front of our 16'W x 24'L garage. The original 16'W x 24'L garage is going to contain tools and work area and new garage will be for the 2007 Silverado and 2006 impala. And Dad he is pretty involved with the planning. We are going to have both garages resided and roofed to match so it looks like one building. Had 3 estimates, one guy said he worked for U.S. pole barns and said no one will beat his price, but wanted $25,000 for the job. His estimate went to file 13. Another contractor was $15,500 for job. He was ok but the best deal is the AMISH under $13,000 for the job (includes vinyl siding and shingles or metal roof on both, 10ft ceiling, 2- 10'wx9'h, one walk in door, 1 window. This AMISH guy is young but fair. I have had estimates from other amish and they are outrageous, but this guy is one my DADS cousin drives around. But none of those estimates include concrete. Dad wants to have the wooden deck removed and concrete pad next to garage with a roof either metal or wood and shingle from back door to garage to keep snow off his ramp. It makes him feel useful which is great. Plus Dad and his friend know concrete guy that will save us alot. The same guy did our 10'W x 75' L driveway, apron at road and a couple sidewalks for $4k. So hopefully he does an equally good deal on garage floor and pad for pathway to door. Dad just got his home equity loan approved today and once the garage gets built, I'll post pics.

Good to hear he is doing okay. The memory definitely suffers after strokes. I did see my grandfather have a lot of trouble remembering things, could watch him working through it - sometimes successful, sometimes not.

It's good thing if he keeps busy and feels productive, probably the best thing for him Smile

Edit: and the amish do good work, to boot. Just stay away from the amish mafia Geek Out LOL

me and the wife where watching the mafia "behind the seens" it was interesting but it set up i cant remember their names but the one boy who was shunned then unshunned was being chased threw im guessing a apple or peach farm then "enforcer" with the chevy truck tackled him. the part that got me was the camera crew was sitting in the farm and just happened to be sitting right where he got tackled. i called bs and lost interest. but anyway glad to hear your dad is in high spirits after the fact.

I watched one episode of Amish Mafia and it seems Like BS. THis is AMISH country around here. And they are nice people and friendly not at all reclusive. t My Aunt and Uncle's dairy farm is next to an Amish farm and their labrador retriever "MOCHA" doesn't seem to like the Amish she growls at them and she loves everyone. In fact a few years ago that guy that went into an Amish school and shot those Amish kids was only about 30-40 miles from here. Sad And the Amish community didn't look for revenge or such. From what i know of the Amish i find it hard to believe there is a Lebannon Levi, not say there isn't just hard to believe. And as for garage i am doing most of the planning. But DAD has his ideas and i'm letting him tell the contractor what he wants so he feels involved. And useful. He has some excellent ideas. Just will cost more. Very Happy Laughing
