I just bought an Impala and the center console is destroyed in it. I found a nice one at a salvage yard but can't figure out how to remove it. Is it welded to the seat at the bottom? Is there a way to just remove the top part as opposed to the whole assembly?
You open the top all the way, & you will see the hinge. Undo the 2 screws on the hinge & the top comes off. On mine the top assy was disgusting from years of sweat from the previous drivers. I was looking for a replacement at the bone yard, but couldn't find one in blue. I threw it in the sink, & washed the material with Dawn, & let it dry in the sun. Came out good as new. Good luck. The top is broken off. Which is why I prefer to just replace the whole center console. And my version has no cup holders yet the salvage yard one does. So I still need to figure out how to remove the whole assembly
The NAIOA mirror of ImpalaHQ has a link, but I can't link it directly. It is in the "how-to's" at this page: http://impalahq.naioa.com/ under a title of something like "How to get at the back of your radio: remove the console". This will show you all the unexpected parts at the front end of the console, but not how to remove the rear:
There are a few bolts in the bottom of the armrest storage part. You'll have to remove the little rubber mat in there to get at them. They'll be hard to see but easy to feel with your hands. I think 4 bolts or screws hold the rear end of the console onto the car. I've taken mine apart for a really thorough cleaning before.. it was pretty straightforward but I did break the little plastic pins at the front of the console (on the sides))
