2001 Pontiac Grand Prix

PostPosted: Sun Jun 23, 2013 9:30 am    Post subject:  Grand Prix Owner but Impala is NEXT ! Reply with quote

Hi guy's. My name is Mathieu, i'm from Quebec, Canada. I'm 26, and since my 18, i had a few W-Body GM cars. My first , is my Pontiac Grand Prix GTX.

This car is my summer ride. Never seen winter , so it's clean as **** ! Very Happy

My next car, for the winter, was my Buick Regal LS. Add for 3 years. No pics.

After, it was my s**t Oldsmobile Intrigue 1998 with ALOT of trouble and finally, my other one Intrigue, but now with the Precision Sport Package, 3.29 diff ratio, Shortstar 3.5 Dual DOHC engine, and alot of thing. LOVE ALOT this car, my starting to be a little old for me...

Now, i will trade my Intrigue for a 2009-2010 Chevrolet Impala LTZ . Maybe in one month, but i'm here to learn about my next Chevrolet Smile

Thank you, and sorry for my english ! Laughing

Hello and welcome to NAIOA! Love the Grand Prix! I always wanted one of those!

If you haven't already set on a particular Impala, I urge you to look at a 2012. Same body as the 09-10 that you mention, but much better engine and, more importantly, much better transmission! You can find them on used lots for fairly good prices!

Agreed. I can't imagine the price difference is that substantial and I'd much rather have an Impala that doesn't have the craptastic transmission that we all know and love (to hate).

That GTX will be badder than any Impala (short of a 65 SS). Always liked the 2 doors so much better. Go '12 or up for your Imp. And don't forget to spray silver over the fake wood trim you'll be stuck with, LOL Peace, John

Thanks guy's. LOL. I know alot about the 4t65 ... I'm not surprised you all hate that trans ...

But i want a 3.9 for personnal reason. I'm affraid about the story with bad timing chain with the 3.6 and ... I never heard issues about the 3.9. Is that true ? And for the trans, a intense shift kit and a trans cooler is the way to go.

Anyway my budget is 11 000$ for a LTZ ... The new drivetrain in the impala is too much pricey for me.

Question about the LTZ ... If i take a 2009 or a 2010, will the car will be equiped with the FE3 Suspension update ? It's standard on a LTZ ?

Thanks

I've not heard of any major issues with the 3.6 in the Impala. I know some early versions of the 3.6 had some issues, but those have been mostly resolved to my knowledge.

You can do a shift kit and a transmission cooler, but it is still literally a matter of time until the trans gives up. It's not if, it is when.

When I was looking for a new car for my wife last summer, we found 2012 LTZs with about 20k on the clock and they were going for about $15k. I get that's above your budget. The 3.9 is a good engine, but that trans will eventually die on you.

Haven't had an issue with my 2006 Impala LTZ (yeah i know it's older Laughing) Haven't had an issue with any 4T65-E that has come my way... my 2001 Impala I previously had lasted 186K before the T-Bone it endured with a Ford Fusion and I've given some trust and some faith with the Impala I have now. Best of luck shopping! Also Welcome to NAIOA

From what I've read on a couple reviews done by some websites the LTZ came with the FE3 suspension as a standard option in 2008 and above
