Nothing like a loaded question . . . but lay it on me.
Am I crazy for thinking of trading/selling my 05 LS for a 05 - 08 ish Dodge Magnum?
I could use the space the Magnum has. The Imp is pretty good thou with the seats down.
Imp has approx 90K miles. But the cruncher is . . . trans is making me think.
It's giving signs. Car runs and drives great at this time. And I still like the ol gal.
Thoughts . . .

I dont think you're crazy, but Im biased

If you are looking to mod for performance, HEMI and RWD is the way to go.

While I have sold parts for GM dealers for decades, I have driven Mopars over the years. Unless that Magnum is going to have a Hemi, I'd keep the Impala. GARY

If you are concerned about the transmission and you car has any value left it, I'd say bail now and get something you actually want rather than end up where I was, buying something I could afford after sinking a bunch of money trying to keep my Monte running.

IffyG, that's where i'm at. With a good detail this thing will shine inside and out. Has all the right options and everything works. After reading all the horror stories including yours, I think it's what I have to do. I was hoping to keep her a lot longer when I bought her. Kinda hate to have to let her go, but I cant afford $1600 for a TEP trans. Cool

Yeah, I'd say dump it if you can make the math work. I was looking into getting a Genesis 2.0T just before everything went to s**t with the Monte and I nuked my down payment money that I had put away to get a new trans and a bunch of nickel and dime s**t. Going back, I would have pulled the plug as soon as the transmission started to act up...

I would seriously drive both the V6 and the Hemi.

STAY AWAY FROM THE 2.7!!!!!!!

After driving both, imagine the Hemi with another 50hp+ with simple bolt ons + tune.

That is fantastic advice. I had a rental 300 with the 2.7 and it made me want to punch myself in the throat. Anemic doesn't even begin to describe how craptastic that engine is in a car that size.

Most 2.7 are lucky to make it to 100k, they are really sensitive to oil changes. Something about a sludge problem takes the motors out.

Thanks for making up my mind. Looks like I go join dodge forum. As for the 2.7 not even thinking that way. Only thinking 3.5 over the 5.7 for better fuel economy but then it's all in the way you drive. I guess the five speed tranny as its a Mercedes unit. Cool

its a 4200+lb car, you may get equal or very close mileage with the Hemi since it doesnt have to work as hard.

Yes, the trans is a Mercedes unit along with many of the suspension / platform parts.

Oh, the 4cyl mode thing is a joke in the Hemi. I disabled mine way back, it netted me maybe 1mpg on the hwy. However, it was real annoying. You can feel it change, you can hear it in the exhaust and at certain speeds around town, it gets confused and cant decide where to be.

I average 12-15mpg with 100% city driving and a real heavy foot. Plus Im modded, so the floorboard regularly feels the bottom of the gas pedal. On the Hwy, guessing mid 20's. Cant tell you for sure, never really experienced Hwy driving with it since I live on an Island. I have taken it to Atlantic City a couple of times and upstate NY, but Im always with a group of cars and always screwing around.

All I can say is, if you plan to mod for performance at all, go HEMI. Dont waste your time with the 3.5L
