Despite how much I loved my Impala SS, I found a deal on a G8 that I just could not pass up.

2009 Pontiac G8 GT, Sport Red Metallic, Sport and Premium Packages, 16,000 miles. The only options it does not have are the Sunroof and the Bluetooth radio. Previous owner put some sort of Cold Air Intake on it (tubing says ACDelco) as well as a Corsa catback exhaust.

I found the car online a few weeks ago (it was in Chicago). The (private) dealer had just received the car on trade and it hadn't been through their inspection process yet, so wasn't actually available to purchase yet (according to their website). When I called to inquire about the car, I was told that the owner of the lot had driven the car home and then went on vacation, so the car was in his garage and no-one had access to it. The owner would be gone for a few weeks. However, they had already taken pictures of the car and sent them to me. I put my SS up for sale and (luckily), it sold just in time for the G8 to finally become available. I had the dealer take the car to a nearby Chevy dealer for inspection and the car came back clean.

This past Saturday, I dickered with the dealer over the phone and we came to a deal that we both were happy with. My wife and I immediately hopped in her car and we drove to Chicago. Six and a half hours later, we pulled into the dealer's lot at around 8:30 p.m. They were already closed, but the sales guy stuck around for us. After a final (and first) test drive, paperwork and the like, I drove off with the G8. We stayed overnight at a local hotel and drove back to the Twin Cities the next morning.

My first picture of the car on the lot, ready for us to pick her up:

The next morning before heading home:

After we got home:

Sorry I don't have better pictures yet. Ever since I got the car home, it's been raining non-stop here in the Twin Cities.

The car is simply awesome and, although I'm still really sad to see the SS go, I couldn't be happier with the new ride!

I will say that I'm not yet done with Impalas, I just don't have one at the moment. My wife has fallen in love with the new Impala, so I'm sure I'll see one of those in my driveway in a year or two!

Nice car! I think this is the carmine or metallic red? I pass a regular gloss red G8 everyday and it makes me sad that they didn't build a Chevy version to carry it along.

I take back that "lack of style" comment from MCO's thread.

NICE!!! I looked at a Sports Red Metallic GT as well. Couldn't come to an agreement with the dealer. About a month later I found an 09 Pacific Slate Metallic GT and traded my Monte Carlo in on it last week. Sounds like it's loaded just like yours. Mine also had a CAI & tinted windows (saved me about $500 for other future mods Very Happy)

How did I not know about these cars before one rolled into the shop at work?!? Awesome car! Enjoy!

BTW: Found a great G8 board if you haven't looked yet http://www.g8board.com/

Sport Red Metallic. Apparently the third "rarest" color for the G8. Only 1,700 some odd made. Doesn't really matter to me. I just think its the best of the available colors.

881 V6s 1527 GTs 169 GXPs 2577 G8s total per :
http://www.g8board.com/forums/.....hp?t=16108

Less:
Ignition Orange 927 total
Stealth Blue 509 total
Pacific Slate 1063 GTs
Stryker Blue 1111 GTs

I'd say 2nd best color Razz Seriously very sharp color!

Guess I meant third rarest for '09 GTs. Very Happy

Ignition Orange (my favorite color) and Stealth Blue were only available in '08. I looked at a fully loaded (including Sunroof and Bluetooth) Stryker Blue with 21k on the clock. Beautiful color, but it also screams "HELLO! LOOK AT ME!". Plus, the dealer was asking WAY too much and would not budge on the price. I looked at that car over a month ago and it's still sitting on their lot. I also found a local Pacific Slate. Gorgeous color. But the car was a fairly bare-bones GT (cloth seats, for example) and had been smoked in. This dealer also wouldn't budge on the price, even telling me that because of the rarity of the color, they'd sell the car at that price. I assume it did sell as it's not there anymore after being on the lot for about three weeks.

I'm very happy with this color. It's infinitely better than the Liquid Red. These cars don't look good in White (IMHO) and not only is Black so difficult to keep clean, pretty much every GT you look at is Black.

Yeah, like I said the first one I looked at was Sport Red, just couldn't get the numbers with the dealer to match up. Mine has more miles the then first (50k vs 35) but the dealer was MUCH more flexable! Even got more for the trade-in. Had also looked into a Magnetic Gray from a private seller but the guy was just a douche from second one. Think he was just gauging interest to see how much he could sell it for. The rear side door tint on mine has some scrapes in it and the upper part of both rear door panels some claw marks are visable, haven't torn into the material but you can tell PO had a small excitable dog. Also had placed one of those vent air fresheners in the right center vent Rolling Eyes, it leaked ate the finish off of the radio surround & bubbled some of the "paint" on the radio. The surround I NEED to do something with, the radio if not for the surround wouldn't be that noticeable. But hey it's used and they were a non-smoker so... I'll survive!

Agree black is beautiful but cleaning was the main issue with me. Liquid Red and Ignition Orange... think it's too big of a car for such bright colors. Stryker Blue is sharp, almost too bright but workable. Gray, Silver and White *YAWN* Razz Haven't seen the Stealth Blue except in pictures and pictures usually don't do the true colors justice. I know the pics of my car look way different then it does in person.

Not sure about where your at but here these things are pretty rare, mine is only the 3rd I recall seeing in person. I'm sure I passed some on the road, or probably vice-versa in the past but just don't see them everyday! Nothing like the Impala.

There are 8 GTs for sale at various dealers in the Twin Cities area. They are all either Black, White or Liquid Red. Most of them are over-priced ($26k for a car with 57,000 miles? Really?) There are a lot more GT Base models for sale, but those cars are dogs. The version of the 3.6 in those cars, mated with the 5-speed auto, made for a slow car.

I have seen three "in the wild" in my year living here. One of them I see once or twice a week because the driver works near where I work and we both take the same road exiting from the office complex.

There is a local Pontiac get-together that happens every year in June that I hope to get to. I hear that there's a pretty good gathering of G8s there.

Cool! Really wasn't anything local when I went looking, then it was mostly private sellers not dealers. Got lucky I saw mine under a basic ad on Autotrader the first day it was listed. I just started the second week of ownership of mine, enjoy it more then I think any other car that I've owned. On the G8 board have seen a few people in the area but not many. Car shows & get togethers down here are pretty scarce. Usually all you see are the classic car buff type of shows. May have to make a trek to a larger event sometime just for giggles and grins. Good reason for a road trip!

I've always preferred rear-wheel drive (ever since my '86 Trans Am). The problem is that there are so few that I could AFFORD. Very Happy

I have to say it is SOOOO nice to be back in a rear-wheel drive car. Having the car stay firmly planted when I get on the gas a bit is awesome. Don't get me wrong, I LOVED my SS and already miss it a lot. But I loved it for what it was. The G8 is MUCH more car than the Impala SS could ever hope to be.

A bit more than I budgeted, but a lot less than higher-mileage cars were going for around here. Very Happy

I seriously cannot believe what some of these cars are going for around here. There's an '09 GT with 21k at a local Chevy lot that they are asking $28k for. Outrageous. Seriously looked the car in hopes of getting the dealer to come down. They would only come down $500. Um...thanks. We're done here.

Cars with 50k-60k on the clock are on the market here for $24k.

I found this car at a lot in Chicago through AutoTrader. Asking price was about $3,000 less than a comparable car here in the Twin Cities. Had the car inspected by a local Chevy service department. When the report came back clean, I negotiated over the phone and got them to knock another $1,750 off. Got in the car with my wife as soon as I hung up the phone with the dealer and drove the six and a half hours. Smile
