hello all, i recently got a K&N air intake for my 05 impala ss, the performance is great, noticable difference. however, when part throttle (1-20%) it makes an obnoxious sucking noise like drinking the bottom of a glass of water through a straw. anything over 20 percent throttle and it sounds great, a mean, healthy vacuum sound. any ideas? i tried rinsing and re-charging with k&n oil but its still there, makes me want to take it off

That's the standard K&N intake noise. Pretty much anything that isn't a stock air box is gonna make that sound. The only thing that might help is cleaning the throttle body if its caked up with carbon.

I love that sound. that's one of the great parts about a cold air intake.

maybe Im thinking differently here, but if it truly sounds like a straw at the bottom of the glass, a wet gurggly sound, I dont remember ever hearing that from any CAI I have used

If its described as PBSS said, you probably over-oiled the K&N like a lot of people do

I agree if it's gurgling there is a problem, but if its just the sound of sucking, that is what an intake does.

I doubt there is really a gurgling noise, more likely a bad descriptor. I'm thinking any water in an intake pipe would be sucked into the engine pretty quickly given the pipe velocities.

Maybe OP should post a vid? I would expect that the sound is really just high idle at startup, or idle noise in general with a CAI. I get a lot of funny looks from people with the fenderwell intake.

Ok maybe a bad description. It i not a "wet" sound by any means. Just a dry sucking with very inconsistent tone. Like I said, if I give it gas it sounds great, at idle it sounds good too. Just at very light throttle it sounds... Obnoxious like I said. Lol. I will take a video, how do I post it?

I loved the sound of my K&N CAI that I had on my old 2004 9C1 Impala. It never sounded bad no matter what rpm the motor was at.
