The '05 cluster is acting up. Tach is intermittent and the speedo is stuck at 75 mph. Anyone know if bbengineer still sells and programs clusters? His web site says closed. Any help/info appreciated.

Check eBay; if you are lucky you can find one that has a similar mileage or more mileage and you can swap it in without having to worry about reprogramming it.

BBEngineer was in the area hit hard by Hurricane Sandy and I haven't seen him around much.

Thanks Frank, e-bay definitely an alternative if the bbe store not opened.

I got a 6 gauge monte cluster (non-SC) at the bone yard today. I know the mileage needs programed. Does the vin need to be programed for the cluster to function? This cluster will probably be used as a core for Dorman or e-bay. I'd like to plug it in just to make sure all 6 gauges do work as I have 4 gauge oe.

no VIN programming, just mileage

Everything should work in the car as long as you have a 3800 motor.

You can replace the stepper motors that work the guages. You can find them on E-bay - look up "Chevy stepper motor". It's not difficult to do, just some basic soldering skill required. The biggest PIA is getting the guage cluster out of the dash.

Like Pitch Black said, its plug and play, as long as its from an 01 up. If you have a 3400 the Oil gauge won't work.

So I'm guessing since I have a 2000 impala, I can only get a replacement from a 2000 impala/monte carlo?

+1, and getting the cluster out of the dash is super easy, might take 15-25 minutes. Just remember to mark where the needles are on the gauges that work. And it might be a good time to solder in new bulbs for the ones that are burned out. Take your time and it will be worth it in the end.

Bah it's all good. Scored a 2000 monte base cluster for $90. I'll put up pics when it's in if all goes good.

Got a 6 gauge cluster from e-bay. Install took 35 min. from start to test drive. It's a nice upgrade, all gauges read as they should. Very happy with vendor. I'm using the bone yard IPC as the core. It's the wife's car, she says "It's nice but I don't really know what they mean".(oil pressure and volts). What are you gonna do? Laughing

alright smart arse riddle me this, did you get the miles programmed from your old cluster to your new? and if you did do you just bring the units in or do you have to have it installed in the car and transferred using a tech2 hooked up to the car?

No Dealer can ( or will ) program the cluster for you. They will offer to send it away for you at a crazy price. There are places that can do it, you will have to shop around. I paid $75 to have it done in Canada.

Tech2 can not change the mileage.
