currently I have a P3 12" sub, (1000Watt peak, 500RMS. 4ohm DVC) It's hooked up to Sony XM-2002GTR 2-channel car amplifier. http://www.crutchfield.com/p_1.....amp;tp=115

I don't feel that it is pushing my sub hard @ all, what would be an IDEAL amp that
would make this thing pound. I've heard a mono amp. but what should I be looking @/for.

Thanks!

I would go with something like this:
http://www.crutchfield.com/p_5.....l?tp=35834

and wire it up like this:
http://a248.e.akamai.net/pix.c.....m_mono.jpg

EDIT: Also what does your box look like? Box will be the biggest factor in what sound you get.

Not to say the amp isnt a problem, sony xpold sucks balls

Yeah I know they do haha, but the amp does have good reviews, I have a ported box. I've been procrastinating on a built box for awhile now. Mine currently doesn't fit under my rear STB and it annoys me lol

Mine barely fits in the trunk haha

Do you know the dimensions on the box at all? I can check and make sure thats not part of the problem. I am willing to bet that amp is the main problem though.

Yeah thats not bad, just make sure to wire the sub to two ohms at the amp to get 500w rms. And make sure its tuned riht so you dont have clipping

The easiest way is a test tone and a multimeter.

is there any difference between a ported box and a sealed box ? also my current Amp puts out 270 wats at 2 ohms so there would be no chance of clipping right? I'm headed out of town mem wknd to visit the old man, do my brakes and make a box.

There is a huge difference between sealed and ported boxes. Also, any amp can clip if you have it set incorrectly. You really need to make sure everything is wired and tuned correctly to avoid issues.

Some info is here: http://www.hifisoundconnection.....ofer_Boxes

because I haven't got my new amp yet, it's telling me (Crutchfield) that I should wire my sub to 8ohm load on my amp, because it's a 2 channel amp... does that sound right?

Post your sub and the amp you are buying and I'll tell you what I would do. (Not that it's perfect, but its gonna be better than an 8 ohm load on a 2 channel amp...).
