My 05 Impala is my 1st car to have a V-6 3800 engine. Previous cars have had 455, 318, 340, 440, & 350 V-8's. It has about 150,000 miles. My last oil change was 2200 miles ago, & I just topped up the oil with 1/2 a quart. Is this acceptable to consume 1/2 quart in 2200 miles? GARY

1/2 quart in 2200 miles is not a huge deal. It could be that the pcv valve is just getting tired, or the LIM gaskets are starting to go. Really hard to tell. Hows the gas mileage at this point? Also, because of the catalytic converter, you won't really see any smoke unless your burning a ton. If you do choose to replace the pcv valve it seems that the ac delco one is the one to get.
GM has a TSB floating out there that claims that it's 'normal' for a 3800 to consume up to 1 quart per 2000 miles. I wouldn't worry at all about half a quart.
Great, considering the car has 150,000 miles. The LIM gaskets & the plastic manifold were replaced a few months ago. Mileage around town isn't the greatest, but on the highway, it's great. By the way, where is the PCV on the 3800? Thanks for the replies. GARY
Too funny. The last time I changed a PCV valve was when they were in the valve cover. I figured I'd practice on a few cars in the local U-Pick, as I was afraid I'd break the map sensor. While there were no Impala's this week, I found some 3800 Regals to practice on. Well, seems on all the vehicles there, the nipple on the map sensor was broken off in the PCV housing. Seems others broke the map sensor while trying to remove it. I did keep a PCV housing though. GARY
