So I was thinking of putting wides tires on the front of my 04 impala ss I was wondering if anybody has ever done this and what would be the negatives about doing this. I'm just worried about the power steering if it can handle the wide tires or if it will mess up anything else. Regular size on this tire for front is p235/55 And rims are 17s but I'm lm looking in getting size p245/50 which is a wider and shorter tire. Anything I should be worried about before doing this? Also previous owner did have same size but soon after getting the car I bought almost a whole new set of the same dimensions.

guessing these are the stock 17" wheels?

I was running 245/45/18 without any issues

if using the stock wheels, 245's are a bit wide for the factory 6.5" wheel. It should work, but the sidewall will be ballooned more than the 235's.

your speedo will read 60 while you are actually doing 59

You should also be running the same diameter on all 4 corners. Shouldnt have any issues if you dont, but could screw with the TPMS that the 00-05 Impala uses.

Yeah the previous owner had wide tires in the front before and the TPMS went off all the time. And I finally got new tires and it stop doing it but I wanna go back to those wide tires since it felt like I had more rubber to the pavement and I liked how it looked also.

you are only getting about 1/4" more on the ground. Id look for better tires over wider, especially on 6.5" wide wheels.

If you really want a wider contact patch, you'll need to upgrade the wheels.

Well, a 245/50 is a full half inch shorter than the 235/55. You will totally notice that, and will probably look pretty short compared to the rears.

If you want wide, but closer to the same diameter, you'd want a 255/50R17. But that brings up the solid point about the rim width. It's not recommended to run on a 6.5" wide rim, but it's doable. Is it safe to on a front wheel drive,.. probably not.
