How old is your accessory drive belt? My only guess is the belt is worn or the tensioner is weak, and the belt is slipping to cause the noise.Hard to tell though, video recordings never seem to capture the sound just right.

Have you gotten under the car to look for damaged or broken linkages, sway bar endlinks, etc?

To troubleshoot on your own, I'd probably suggest you jack the car up, take the front wheels off and have a look while someone else steers and maybe puts the car in drive to get power to the wheels.

This of course, is dangerous. Don't put yourself directly under the vehicle at any time when the car is running or jacked up. Put the removed wheels under the frame near the front of the car in case the jack or jackstands fail. Better to damage a wheel than yourself.

The safest way, of course, is to take it to a shop. But I'm assuming you're asking here to try and save some money.

To me it sounds rotor/brake related.
Slightly depress the brake pedal to hear if the noise disappears.

Possible wheel hub assembly on your driver's side. Check the rim for play.

I did the 12-6 jiggle on the wheel and there's some play. All signs point to hub. Im going to buy the timpkin and hopefully get a decent price on labor from a local mechanic. Thanks for your help.

I really dont want to tackle it alone at this point. I may still give it a try. I think though it might be a brake wear indicator as Ive read some things about that. I might go to the mechanic atleast for a second opinion on diagnosis as im not really sure 100% what the problem is. Thanks for your encouragment though.

Help......

I thought the brake indicators were rubbing so I replaced the pads and rotors. Not the problem. The mechanic suggested the bearing was loose causing play and rubbing. Replaced the bearing. Not the problem. The noise is exactly the same as in the. Videos. It sounds like dragging a piece of metal on the concrete undder the car. I have no idea. Its not the shock mounts eithe. Please help. If I hear one more "wheel hub" brake indicator " or rotor diagnosis though it is o void you don't you don't know what you're talking a about. Sorry I've just searche'd every car forum on the web and a lot of people have this symptom just nobody has the answer. HELP!

Did you do what lingenfelter said? This would most likely reproduce the symptom.

And when you put in new brakes/indicators, did you sand down the contact points and put silicone on the pins? If not sanded down, the indicators could be in wierd position and cause this. Look at your new rotors, do they have any wierd marks on them? Just don't start throwing parts at something until you know for sure, you will end up with no moola!

Seriously though... jack up the car and really look at everything in the suspension, jiggle everything back and worth to see if there is movements in the bushings or ball joints, leaky struts, ect. Then safely put power to the wheels, with the emergency brake on and wheel chucks!!!!

Yes I did jack it up and inspect everything. Last night at the garage the guy had it up on the lift and another guy was in the car giving it gas turning the wheel. I was underneath and the metalic noise didnt come up, I suppose because there was no load . I do have power steering issues, the lines are moving around a lot when engaged but the rack isnt moving. It might be my ps pump but the noise sounds so much like its coming from the drivers wheel, though i could be mistaken.
