I usually pull the bottom hose to drain, fill with water, run to operating temp, repeat.

Repeat

I will do that then. Do you ever use the bottles of flushing chemicals like the Prestone stuff?

You can pull a knock sensor too, to drain the block.

I do want to get all the dexcool out cause I'm going to replace it with some Universal Prestone stuff. Is the knock sensor easy to get to?

I'm not a fan of switching to universal coolant, but since you are doing it, you need to be 100% certain that you got the Dexcool out. If you don't, you are going to be in a world of hurt.

It's a mix with all kinds of coolant kind, so would it still be a problem if I didn't get absolutely all of it out?

Dexcool doesn't play nice with anything but Dexcool (it turns into sludge). If wouldn't run the risk of switching coolants, but that's just me.

Ignore the horror stories. Dexcool was never the problem, the problem was lack of proper maintenance and crappy nylon gaskets. Dexcool became a scapegoat for other issues...

Alright I haven't bought the coolant yet so maybe I'll just do the dexcool then. I found the advanced auto online codes work for coolant so that will make it much cheaper
