I bought my laptop used from a guy like 3 years ago. I have been having issues lately and I installed a bunch of crap on it when I first got it. My question is how do I go about re-setting/ reinstalling the os, and getting all the crap off the HD. I have no discs that came with the Laptop and I don't think the guy I bought it from does either. So am I SOL or is it possible to do without the discs? Thanks!

- Matt

Some computers actually come without restore CDs and instead use a partition on the hard drive for it. I would start with the support section of the manufacturer's website to see how to restore it and what you'll need.

If you need CDs, the manufacturer may send them to you at low cost, or you might be able to borrow some from a friend or someone on here if they happen to have them.

There should be a system restore option for it.

I just did one on my 5 year old laptop over the summer because I was having all sorts of issues

Try CCleaner (crap cleaner)

Also the PCDecrapifier can help you remove some bloatware too
