I just got back from the local U-pick, & got a AM-FM CD factory radio from a 01 Impala. While the radio will physically fit in my 05 car, will the electrical connections in the rear be the same. The part # on the radio is 10310456. It was $18, & guaranteed for 1 month. Thanks. GARY

Yes, however the radio will not work because you need the VIN number programmed. You'll have to take a trip to the dealer and have them do it, unless you have a tech II laying around lol.

Some dealers are cool and do it free, others charge. From what I've heard $40 is the average

Thanks for the reply. I was the GM parts guy at the Chevy dealer for years, so if I buy my buddy a Coke, he'll take care of the radio unlock. Thanks. GARY

The radios changed with the HVAC control in 04. Not saying it won't work, just saying.

I checked with the Chevy parts guy. 2000-2005 Impala's & Monte Carlo's use the same radio. Now my GF has a 06 Monte Carlo, & that HVAC & radio is totally different. While the 2000-2003 HVAC has 5 speeds, & the 04-05 has 9 speeds, other than that, they look similar. Funny, yesterday there were many 2000-2005 Impalas in the boneyard, & I noticed what years had changes, or upgrades between 2000-2005. 2000-2003 police cars only had tranny coolers, & they looked like they were from a parts store, but the mounting brackets looked factory. No oil or PS coolers though. But the 05's had all 3 coolers, & they looked factory. Some had STB's, while others didn't. No pattern to that. But for the 1st time I saw 2 3400 cars that had STB's, & they were different from the ones on most cars, or sold by GM. They were curved by the alternator, & almost touched the firewall for clearance. I picked up extra vacuum hoses for the engine, pwr mirror, & window switches to have as extra. I figured the yard would be empty, with most shoppers fighting for big screen TV's, & laptops, but the place was packed. GARY

IIRC (it's been a LONG time since I have researched this...back to when I bought my car over 8 years ago), 00-01 has only the power steering cooler, and they phased in the oil cooler in 2002 and the transmission cooler either at the same time or afterwards.

2003-2005 radios (with the BAND instead of AM/FM) button are satellite radio and possibly external factory CD changer compatible. I still have the Sony CD changer that works with a FM transceiver that I gutted from my 1996 Mustang when I wrecked it. Wink

What Dan is saying about the hvac changing is in 04 and 05 the HVAC unit went to being electronic rather than vacuum controlled like the 00-03.

My buddy installed, & unlocked the radio today. Sounds better than the Sony it replaced. GARY
