Hey there,

I'm a new user and was wondering if anyone had heard of anyone other than BBEgineering for the module that you attach to your wire harnesses that lets you turn off the auto-lamps and DRL functions in our cars. It appears as if BBEngineering is out of business now. They had the kit available a while back and I dragged my ass getting one and now that I'm ready, they look to be out of business.

Any other options out there?

Thanks,

DH

Apparently all the Impala police cars do this [at least my 05 does] so I'd go to the local bone yard & remove the button & wiring. The button will say "surv mode" & is located where the fog lamp button is on other Impala's. Between the headlamp switch, & the steering column. There might be other wiring differences, but a trip to the local Chevy dealer, & a few minutes with the shop foreman looking at the service manual should tell you all you need to know. GARY

What I did was pull my DRL relay from the fuse box under the hood. The lights do come on automatically at night, but not during the day, unless you turn them on manually.

BBE isn't out of business, he just isn't very active anymore

In case you aren't aware, he is one of the owners of this forum

Actually, if you go to his website through the banner ad above, you get the following message: "Due to a change in circumstance, the BBEngineering Store is currently closed."

I hope everything is okay.

Actually I have an 04 Monte SS. I'm on here because I know a lot of the electrical systems are similar on Impalas and Montes. I'll try pulling the DRL relay and see what happens. On the Monte site they said your service engine light will come on in the dash though.

Maybe someone can put a good word in for me so I can get one of the real kits from BBE!!

His area was hit hard by Sandy, I'll see if I can get in touch with him. Maybe if he has some left over stock he can ship it to me and I'll take care of selling it for him for a bit

wont work, requires a new BCM and custom tuning with a Tech II and a knowledgeable tech to do the work. No where near a straight forward install.

Thanks for the help Pitch Black. I didn't know BBE got affected by the hurricane. My DRL-autolamp issue is not important at all compared to a guy trying to recover from all the hurricane did. I feel for all those affected on the East Coast.

This is what I recently found out as far as trying to install a new BCM or a used one or re-flashing your existing one to eliminate DRLs and auto-lamps: I have first-hand knowledge as far as the flashing-replacement aspect of this and GM actually needs to have a letter on official letterhead from a police or law enforcement department stating you want to turn off or modify your DRLs or autolamps before they will allow you to re-flash your existing BCM. They can modify the flash files (configuration) at GM so that after you send that letter and get approval, when you actually access SPS to flash the BCM and then set it up with a Tech 2-- (you need a subscription to access SPS), it will allow you to get rid of your DRLs and auto lamps.

Even if you got a new, used, or re-man ECM, you need to have that special flash file approved by GM as long as you send in that letter and get approved. It's kind of crappy you can't just use a Tech2 or MDI to do it, but I guess GM is trying tokeep you "safe" by making you use the DRLs and autolamps and I'm sure they don't want any legal liability due to someone turning them off and then suing them.

Oh well, I wish there was an easy way to do this. I guess the earlier models you could just pull fuses or relays to do it..

My buddy at the Chevy dealer just confirmed this. But what's funny is my GF has a 06 Monte Carlo LT, that was originally a rental car that she purchased used. The same switch that turns off her auto headlamps also turns off her DRL's. Now it's not a full time deal like on my Impala with the "surv mode" button. Every time she starts the car, the DRL's come on, but she can turn them off, & they will stay off until the next time she starts the car. Is this normal for a 06 Monte Carlo LT? GARY

Yes, the switch and electronics in the 2006-2012 models are completely different from the 2000-2005 models.

By all means, dealing with recovery efforts is definitely more important than electrical issues with an Impala.

As I said, I hope he is okay and that everything works out for him and all others affected by Sandy.

Just talked to BBE, all is good by him, just a lot on his plate with work, family and clean up. Plus demand for the products is nearly non-existant and costs to buy whats needed will far exceed the amount he would need to produce to turn any profit. The cars are now 6-12 years old and aftermarket demand has dropped off drastically. Ive seen it in the decal shop as well. Used to fill 10-15 orders a week, Im at 2-3 a month now.
