The problem described at this link indicates a rebuild is necessary. It also shows how to check for the problem with the trans pan removed.

Go home car, you are drunk.

It's over pal, beater economics says replacing the car is more cost effective than dropping a new trans in.

Buying a used Impala doesn't cost any more than installing a used trans.

No, but if the only thing wrong with your impala is a bad transmission its smarter to replace the transmission. Buying a used impala (especially at the price of a transmission) you could be buying a car with tons of problems. Who knows, he amy buy a used impala for 1500-2000 and in 6 months the trans may take a crap and the LIM gaskets might start leaking.

If he replaces the transmission (especially with a TEP) he won't have to worry about it crapping out again for a long time (or basically never with the TEP)

Active- you can put in a used trans, but make sure it has the same gear ratio. Also, you might swap in a used trans to find out it doesn't work either. If you are keeping the car for any amount of time, its a better idea just to get a rebuild

my impala i bought 4 years ago cost 6000.00 when i bought it.
Year later i put in a used trans with 1 year warranty, was $500.00 luckily i got free installation. So as long as u have a friend or family to help with installation your good
