My 2004 Impala SS has been slowly dying these past few years and when the clutch on the transmission started to go, that was the last straw. Sad to think I was hoping to ride it until the wheels fell off. Spent $5K in parts and labor in three years fixing it. I love the car and still do, but its time to move on to a new Chevy Avalanche.

.

Got a pretty good deal it. I'd like to give a big thank you to BBEngineer for all the help he has provided me while on this forum, ZSPOT for the parts, exhaust install and for being a great friend, Pitch Black SS for starting this good website. By far this forum is the easiest to navigate and user friendly. And finally the rest of the NAIOA family, when I had problems I got responses to my questions pretty quick and with experience to answer them.

Thank you everyone!!

Nice truck. How many miles did your SS have before it started to die?

W-bodies tend to go to s**t in a hurry. I think I ended up spending almost 6k in repairs (most of that was the transmission and fuel pump) over the last 2 and a half years I had my Monte. When they become money pits, it's time to pull the ripcord and move on.

I miss driving my Monte Carlo, but I don't miss the constant repairs and drain on my wallet.

Good looking truck. A shame they're discontinuing the Avalanche they always seemed to sell pretty well.

Cars come and go, just have to enjoy them while you have them. Watch for leaks on the rear when it rains, the glass doesn't always seal properly.

Five grand over 3 years is still only 139 a month.

There's an argument both ways (it all depends on your situtation and what you want out of the vehicle) and I don't think either one is necessarily wrong, but I know I can't pick up a car loan for 139 a month.

Regardless, nice truck! 5.3L? It really is too bad they're getting rid of it.

While I understand what you're saying, that's still a lot of money just to fix a car and keep it on the road, not including normal maintenance and any car note he may have had if it wasn't paid off. But as you say depends on ones situation.

No, but you can lease a car without much down for not much more too. If you're going to make me choose between spending $140 / month and have it be nothing but headaches and frustrations of issues (not regular maintenance) and extended downtime for the vehicle while its fixed, I'd much rather spend $200-300 and have a new(er) car that should have far fewer problems.

Ditto. Plus free oil changes for year and a four year bumper to bumper warranty is hard to beat after the money spent on my still broken car if I would have fixed the tranny. Plus the money still charged up from previous fixes.

On a side note, my Pirelli P Zero Nero tires started to dry riot faster than they were wearing out. Which was the reason for my blow out on the highway a day before I traded it in. $200 later. I've never out lasted my tires until now. Minus the dry riot they were the best tires. AA traction rating was awesome!
