2003 Chevrolet Impala

PostPosted: Thu Oct 18, 2012 11:37 pm    Post subject:  Pioneer deh-80prs Reply with quote

Was thinking about purchasing this head unit but after looking it up on crutchfield I'm not sure if it would fit. I though I saw it in a couple cars on here so was just wondering if anything special had to be done to get it in, the lady at crutch field said it was too deep. The car is a base 2003 impala with the stock tape deck and no OnStar, thanks for any help.

Crutchfield is pretty good about fitment. If they say its too deep, it's probably too deep. That being said, there is a lot of plastic that can be trimmed behind the radio to make things that are just a hair too big fit. I can't find the depth on the unit you are looking at, so I can't help you on that front.

Thanks for the reply. If the manual I found online for it is right its 165mm deep, this Kenwood receiver I was looking at that it says fits is 160mm. I've never installed a head unit before so do you think that's too much of a difference?

Yeah. The one I had in my Monte Carlo was just shy of 6.5" deep (about 165 mm) and I had to perform surgery behind the dash to get it to fit back there. Wasn't too difficult, just time consuming and annoying.
