Looking to build a new desktop computer for a Christmas present to myself, and I can't decide if I should go with Windows 8, or just stick with 7. Anyone used the release preview? Seems to me that you pretty much need a touch screen to take full advantage of it. Suggestions?

I put Windows 8 beta on one of my extra laptops. It was absolutely wretched and didn't support a bunch of software I need to use for work. That experience was why I hurried up and purchased a new computer with Windows 7 a few months ago. It may be a better experience on a touch screen, but on a standard computer, I'd avoid it like the plague.

Although, if you don't need any specific software to work on it and are willing to completely relearn windows, you might find it to be a decent enough O/S for your needs.

I had the beta for awhile as a dual boot. Absolutely hated it. I'll continue to use 7.

yeah, a lot of crap isnt supported by either win7 or win8. win8 is awful. save your time and dont even go that route. stick with 7 if thats what you currently have.. Windows 7 is gradually supporting more and more things, yet in the computer world, it actually doesnt support a whole lot.

8 blows.

I used 8 for about 3 hours and got fed up with Metro getting in the way. They also removed some behind the scenes s**t that allowed you to boot straight to the "legacy" desktop, which now forces you to start on the metro every time. It's also removing alot of support deliberately to encourage you to use Microsoft backed software....
