Getting the headlight "blinky" effect when driving this;

Pioneer GM-D7400M
Mono subwoofer amplifier
400 watts RMS x 1 at 2 ohms

...which I got from iffyG. Will be putting in 190A Alternator I'm getting from billy101.

Will the alternator alone fix this problem,or should I be getting a capacitor,as well?

If so,how do I determine what to get,and would anyone recommend anything in particular?

Thanx for any feedback

P A Tyson

Are you sure you set the gains correctly? I was running two amps with the big three and had zero dimming. Perhaps your alternator is on the way out and in that case an upgrade alt would definitely fix it.

I've played with the Gain setting...I believe it's set pretty much about halfway as of now.But,I had not been driving at night much just after the installation...however,jumping back and forth from workin' days to nights very recently,I just haven't had the time or patience to mess with it further.

When I get the alternator,and get it installed,which should be within a couple of weeks,I'll certainly have a better feel for the situation at hand...and be able to offer more info.

Any and all guidance in the interim is welcomed,as always. Smile

Thanx for the reply,iffyG

if u get the dimmy effect and since your getting a new alternator i'd see if that fixes the issue... i have a 2400 W amp and i don't crank mine super loud and ear blasting and i don't have any dimming issues on mine along with using the H/D alternator in my vehicle

You should really get a DMM to set the gain in a more accurate way. You'd be suprised how easy it is to over do it.

Never heard it done that way.... How would you do that?

Here is a link that outlines it. Basically you play a test tone (Used 40 hz for subs and 1000 hz for the regular speakers), do some math with your Amp and speaker specs and find a target voltage to hit with the gain. Works like a charm. I'm sure there are better instructions out there, but this was the easiest to find.
