PostPosted: Wed Aug 22, 2012 11:04 am    Post subject:  Instrument cluster upgrade? Reply with quote

I recently picked up a 2005 Impala, & it came with what I call a taxi cab cluster. Speedo, fuel, & temp. I'd like to see oil pressure, & volt also. There are other Impala's which come with a full gage cluster, & I'd like to know if this can be installed in my car w/o major mods. Years ago a friend had an 03 Chevy SUV, & was able to install a cluster from a similar Caddy SUV, & this gave him trans temp too. Just plug & play. Is this possible with the Impala. My last car, a Pontiac GP had all the gages, & I miss that. GARY

Any impala from 01-05 can be used, along with monte carlos from 01-05.

Don't get an impala (not sure if monte is the same) from 00 because it MAY cause your 3rd brakelight to come on. I know if you have an 00 and use 01 up this is the case, I forget if it works both ways though.

For the impala it will be the impala LSS cluster (could used SS but the boost wont work) and the monte carlo will be the non supercharged monte carlo ss version

I actually have a LSS Cluster (Voltage, Oil Pressure, Coolant, Fuel, Speedo, and Tach) up for sale in the for sale section. PM me if you're interested.

Thanks for the info. Just so I understand clearly, I would just pop in a LSS cluster, & the oil pres, & volt gage, & tach which don't exist on my car would magically work? The fact that my car is a 9C3, & has a cert speedo makes no difference? Thanks again. GARY

As long as you have a 3800, all the gauges will work. The sensors and PCM outputs for the gauges are all there, you just don't have the gauges to see it. The only draw back is you will need to get your mileage programmed and pretty much the only option for that is sending the cluster to BBEngineer.

Thanks, yes I have a 3800. The GM dealer where I worked deals with Technicar in Oldsmar Florida for all the factory cluster work, so they would be able to fix the mileage for me too. 1 day turn around. These W body cars are new for me. Most of my cars over the years were Mopars, & Oldsmobiles, & recently a 90 GP. Thanks again. GARY

get a android with hdmi, a double din head unit, wire up an hdmi to composite converter to run on 12v and bury it behind the double din, and then get a mini bluetooth obd2 adapter and run an app called torque on your android onto your double din. boom every gauge you could ever want in your dash

thats in the kizashi, i think the cvt and the electronic throttle body confuse the load and tps readouts...
its pretty awesome and as a bonus you will also have google maps and pandora and the world wide web on your dashboard.

its not too bad i already had a droid razr and a double din the hdmi converter is like 30 bucks on amazon and the obd thing is like 20 bucks the tricky part is making the 12v to 5v supply heres a pic i took while i was testing it before i soldered it together i just cracked open a 5v usb cigarette lighter plug and used that

and the end result:

Would the LSS dash with full gauges work in a 3.4 car or are the pin outs on the cluster different?

Yes, except for the oil pressure gauge.

I had the cluster installed at the dealer yesterday. Works great, but the ABS lite stays on. My friend reset the system twice, & there are no codes showing. My car has ABS, & the lite comes on 10 seconds after starting the car. I covered the lite with black tape. This is an amazing upgrade from the 'taxicab cluster". The led's give the gages a nice blue tint. GARY
