Found these on rockauto! For all you 3800 guys, you know what kind of peace of mind these will give us!

Dorman part # 47065HP. I've only been able to find them on rockauto. Just ordered a set.

They're $8.40 plus shipping and it looks like you get both elbows for that price. Use the discount code 107852658849707 for 5% off.

IMO it wont' matter unless they also replaced the s**t gaskets that come with their plastic elbows.

I've heard of a lot of them cracking open and blowing coolant everywhere. Also, one of the reasons they slip out of the holes is the plastic flexes allowing them to do so. The metal won't flex, I'd imagine that will help them hold in better.

I just ordered a set. O rings can be replaced.

Thats a hell of a awesome find! I always felt like that part was a weakness... anything plastic on an engine I believe is weak and unacceptable. Just ordered a pair Wink

There are also a bunch of issues with them sealing right out of the box. It has something to do with the gasket Dorman supplies not being suitable for use in that application. I picked up a set of the plastic elbows when I did my LIM gasket on the Intrigue and promptly purchased GM replacement. The gaskets are obviously different.

Yeah, the o-rings on the plastic dorman elbows have problems sealing. I'll see how they are on the metal ones. If they're no good, I'll replace them with some different o-rings.

This may not solve the o-ring problem, but I doubt they will ever blow out like the plastic ones do.

So for piece of mind, put the GM 'O' rings on the metal elbows maybe. A little more money but more reliable. Cool

I'm certainly not arguing against that. Honestly, I can't believe it took this long for a metal elbow to be developed.

There was a guy on w-body.com who had a custom set made for his GP. We were all trying to get him to make more, and there was a lot of interest at $50 a pop. I was considering getting some made and doing a group buy going until I saw dorman was making them for far cheaper than I could get them made for. Shipping on these is ridiculous though. $7.98 for the part with the coupon code and then another $10 and change to ship. Oh well, worth it for a little more peace of mind.

Are these compatible with any other motor? I can't fathom why they would opt to design them, now that there isn't any GM car made with the 3800 now.

Its only listed for Series II and III 3800 powered cars, not sure why they would change it now, but I'm glad they did.

Here's the interchange:

BUICK LACROSSE (2005 - 2008)
BUICK LESABRE (1996 - 2005)
BUICK LUCERNE (2006 - 2008)
BUICK PARK AVENUE (1995 - 2005)
BUICK REGAL (1996 - 2004)
BUICK RIVIERA (1995 - 1999)
CHEVROLET CAMARO (1995 - 2002)
CHEVROLET IMPALA (2000 - 2005)
CHEVROLET LUMINA (1998 - 1999)
CHEVROLET MONTE CARLO (1998 - 2005)
OLDSMOBILE 98 (1995 - 1996)
OLDSMOBILE LSS (1996 - 1999)
PONTIAC BONNEVILLE (1995 - 2005)
PONTIAC FIREBIRD (1995 - 2002)
PONTIAC GRAND PRIX (1997 - 2008)

Edit: Strange, it doesn't list all 3800 powered cars. I notice its missing the Olds Intrigue, maybe others.

If they sell them as the pair, that's probably why it doesn't list the Intrigue. It has one coolant elbow and the other one integrated into the belt tensioner.

Yeah, I knew that some 3800s had them integrated. I read somewhere that it was the 97-98 cars that had it integrated. Maybe the L67 too, I forget. Anyone know what cars/years/engine configurations had it integrated?

I'm pretty sure most 97 and 98s had the integrated elbow. I know the Intrigue tensioner crosslists with the 97 and 98 GP with the 3800. My guess is all other 3800s for those models years share the same tensioner.

Mine never broke until I tried to replace them. The gasket and part of the elbow was still stuck in the engine side. I approve the metal elbow idea Cool
