Hello, I use to be a member on here but I either forgot my user name or because it was inactive or something for too long it got deleted. Any how, about 2-2.5 years ago the transmission on my 01 3.8 impala went so I parked it and bought a new car. I still started it once in awhile to make sure the engine was still good and all. Yesterday was one of those times, and I thought to myself still runs like a champ and sounds good too with the dual flo-pros. So out of curiosity i started looking on ebay at trannys and they are a whole heck of a lot cheaper than i though they would be. Then I called the u pull by me and said if they have one out there its 75$ plus 25$ core charge. When it originally went they said it would be about 1800 to rebuild and i didnt want to take the risk of spending that much and then something else going on it but if I can get a tranny for $500 or less then I figure why not. My question is, are there any guides on here or has anyone swaped a transmission before that could point me in the right direction of a how to. Also, is it even going to be worth it to put a used transmission in there. Thanks in advance!

its only worth it if the trannys are good. Without tearing into them, you cant tell since they arent in running / driving cars.

Pick up a Haynes or Chiltons manual for the procedures.

Ok thanks. Am I better off attempting a rebuild or no? I mean the car is just sitting there now anyhow so it's not like I'd be any worse off really.
