Hi,

I'm thinking of adding a transmission oil cooler to my '03 3.4 stock Impala, 159KM,
to help with the hard shifting when hot issue. Plan B is a shift kit, plan C is to replace the pressure control solenoid, maybe the others also.

I searched for posts which had pictures and info. on adding a cooler to our impalas, but couldn't find any. I thought there were some before.

Also, what is the best way to plumb in an aux. cooler, in series before the radiator cooler, in series after the radiator cooler, or independent of the radiator cooler?
Just changed the transmission oil and filter for the second time.

Thanks

I would install before the radiator. Cooling the fluid before it enters the rad will help lower engine temps also.

your trans may be slipping, causing what they call a "Maximum adapt shift", so that the transmission properly shifts. Not to alarm you or anything, but your shifting when hot happened to me. I did not do the shift kit, because when I dropped the trans pan, I had more metal than should have been in the pan.

Good Luck. Wink

Don't do it. Not smart money. Beater economics says to trade it or drive it into the ground.

In series after the radiator. Feed the hot fluid in the bottom of the cooler as it will force any air out the top line. If air gets trapped in the cooler it kills efficiency.
