My buddy (drives an 07 ss/sc cobalt) and I went to just snap some shots together. We forgot a camera LOL so we used an Iphone with the 8 megapixel camera so... We plasti dipped his wheels from stock to what is in the pictures. we messed up on one wheel which you can tell in one of the pictures of his car, but it was the first wheel and we just wanted to get them done. we are going to redo it sometime....

Nice pics! I like the wheel treatment on the SS. Does he have any mods on it? I've heard a stage 1 is only a couple hundred bucks and adds something like 40 horse to that motor.

he currently has no mods on it other than magnaflow exhaust... He was going to go straight to stage 2 until his dad talked him out of it to prolong his motor life...I think he is just doing an Injen CAI and upgrading his suspension. May throw a short shifter on it too.

He most likely is going to go all black on the wheels once winter comes because of rocks/salt/snow/etc... he may try to keep the current dip on until next summer though.

He should PC them all-black. It'd be a lot more durable (though also a lot more money)

R&T rated the Cobalt SS as one of the best-handling in it's class they'd ever come across, despite the torsion bar in back. I'm surprised he's spending money on suspension - is he dropping it?

I see a lot of black Cobalts here with the taillights tinted really dark and they look good, but there's something about doing that, that just don't sit right with me.

Can't argue with Magnaflow and a short shifter, though. I'd definitely have gone for some engine tuning. Whats one of those motors really going to cost?

you hit the nail on the head, he is lowering it.. To do the upgrade its around 700 in parts i believe.. He would do the labor himself. He likes the palsti dip so he can go back chrome when he wants. When he plasti dips them all black, they will most likely stay that way until he goes back to chrome.

i try to convince him to do the upgrade.. he talks about how it is a race car all the time and that he can beat everything on the road. It really not THAT fast of a car, its quick, not fast. IIRC it runs low 14 stock on stock boost (8 or 10 psi).. It is a fun little car though.

it was rather easy with plasti dip. The hardest part was masking off at the same point on all the corners. Took all of about 5 or 6 hours for 5 coats with 15 min dry time each. We had to redo 1 wheel because his dog got into the garage and slobbered on the final coat's wet plasti dip so we had to peel it off and start anew.

I really like the wheels on the Cobalt! That's a great look, with the spokes being black and the rest still metal. It might be a bit much on the Impala/Monte SS rims though. The spokes on those are much wider than on the Cobalt. Might be a bit overpowering. But, it looks really good on the Cobalt!

Like everyone else is saying, the Cobalt wheel treatment is a nice look. Only thing I myself would do different (outside of doing it more permanently w/powder coating) is maybe a satin or semi-gloss finish.. something not quite as flat as the plastidip looks on there now. Otherwise though, I think those look great that way! Cool

yeah. at dipyourcar.com they sell all of plastidip's products... they have a glossifier that you put over the finished product that gives it a shine, but nothing like a powder coat, but it would look better...
