It seems almost every time I accelerate I hear a whining sound from the engine and only when the A/C is on. The A/C hasn't been too awful cold either. Is this a warning sign that my compressor is dying??? I really can't afford this right now. Sad

Or there is a resistance to the pulley under load.

Belt could be slipping under the extra load when AC is on. Clutch probably on its way out. Cool

Well I put some R-134 in the system. I used the can from AZ. Was super low. I got it all filled up and A/C and the noise got even louder and it still wasn't cold as it should be. So I took it to the local shop I always go to and long story short, it needs a new compressor at the tune of $675.50 all include parts and labor. Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad Also the blower motor on my Saturn went out too. Damn I should play the lottery or something.

$675. Shocked. If you can put a compressor on, pretty easy to do, save some money.
I know you still have to have the system evacuated and filled etc but 675 a tad high for me.

I got reman compressor from Ebay around $120 delivered. Been on two years no problems. Cool

I can't work on an A/C system. Don't know how and I'm not going too try. I will most definitely look into the Ebay route. Very Happy

Any dryer problems will not cause a noise. Any noise will be from belt or compressor clutch. Sorry. Sad Cool

Damn it! I was really hoping for a cheaper solution. I guess I'll shop around. I found a reman compressor on ebay for $117 which isn't too bad at all. Maybe I'll go with that.
