I bought another stock headunit from a 03 Impala (same year as mine) to take out the cd player to install in my stock cd player that has since been inop. I figured it would be plug and play but the connectors are different.. mine has 2 connectors with a total of 17 pins, while the one I bought has only 1 connector with 14 pins, so my plan is on hold for now anyway until I order new LED bulbs..

So, my question is: is there some kind of anti theft/deterrerant/programmable chip that I can remove from my stock radio and install in the "new" one? I want to keep it stock while adding a headphone jack so I can listen to my ipod ( http://ls1tech.com/forums/ster.....apter.html ) but I'm really looking to avoid having a dealer/shop having to charge me an hour for only reprograming..

If this is a no, then I'm going to need to find a wiring diagram for the stock head unit to see if its possible to put the working cd player into my non working cd player..

I'm pretty sure the only way is a trip to the dealer. If you ask nicely (or are in for another service) you might be able to get it done for free.

That's exactly what I worried about/trying to avoid.. I'll try to sweet talk one of the service writers

Do you guys know if they just plug it into my OBD or do they need to take my dash apart?

If I can't get it for less than $20 then I'll just find out the harness wires and just try to splice in the newer cd player.. if all else fails then I'm gonna test the positives to the negatives and either pay the 1 hour labor or just get an aftermarket deck and harness and install it myself... this sucks

should be OBD, they have to program the new radio with your VIN
