I'm looking to swap in a tranny from a 9c1 into my car, my dad did all the looking around buying, making sure of gear ratio blah blah. I tried searching and found way too much on transmissions.. most were top swap or cars not even a w body... Is there a good thread for us to follow on swapping out mine. *** this will NOT be a top swap*** just to make it clear..

Any help is much appreciated.. my dad and uncle are very mechanically inclined, however , they have never done a tranny swap before .. thanks!!

i thought the only difference was a different gear ratio (thought they got 3.29 gears) and they had the HD parts on them...

i've dropped a trans a few times from the bottom on my friends GTP it's not too bad just very freaking heavy... we did a full trans and cradle assembly the first run though then reinstalled it by jacking it up... idk how/what tools you have though a trans jack helps alot

Its possible to do by supporting the engine from the top with an engine hoist, and dropping the rear of the cradle. There are 6 bolts holding the trans to the block, and there is a bracket on the accessory side attaching the intermediate shaft to the block. The hardest bolt is the rear one. You'll need a long extension to get to it. Make sure you disconnect all of the wiring. You'll need to pull the halfshafts out before dropping it. The easiest way to do that is by unbolting the ball joints and tie rod ends.

Well turns out my dad bought a tranny from an 03 9c1 which is an 3lcb, with 3.29 ratio, and I have a 3lbb with a 3.05 ratio, glad I looked before we touched a wrench. Now I'm debating on returning and finding another tranny or getting a tuned pcm from Overkill... :/

If you wanna go a little faster, use the 9c1 trans. If you want to keep your gas mileage, stick with your original gearing.

Evacuate AC. Drain coolant. Remove main harness, fuel, AC, trans cooler, rad hoses. Disconnect ISS, shift linkage, throttle cable. Remove 6 strut top nuts. Remove 4 subframe bolts. Lift vehicle. Dispose of powertrain and vehicle shell on Craigslist. Profit.

that or just change out the gear ratios from both transmissions to keep your stock gear ratio
