so i'm in the middle of changing out all my gaskets right now, and i needed to drain the coolant. there was a write up how to properly do this change by removing the drain c**k under the radiator. it said to get a large ratchet (i forgot the size) which i got and apply pressure to the c**k, and turn to the left. it may take a while but eventually it will loosen up and open the drain. i was out there for 20 min trying to get the damn thing to turn its almost impossible. i got a couple real good turns on it but no luck. so i just pulled the lower radiator hose. how the hell are you supposed to turn this drain c**k properly

I don't recall exactly, but when I did the LIM gaskets on my car, I think I just turned it a bunch of times and eventually the coolant started coming out.

Did you read the how-to from the LIM/UIM gasket writeup by sabrewings, or somewhere else?

Maybe you've got some crap in the bottom of the rad blocking the fluid from draining out.

There is nothing wrong with pulling the lower hose. Sometimes you have to wiggle it just a little bit after a few turns out.

I just drained my radiator to replace the water with coolant after my episode last weekend.

It was a 17mm 6 sided socket. It fit perfectly around the two "wings" on the nut.

Mine was 19mm, and it feels like you have to loosen it forever until coolant starts to come out..

the lower hose clam was a royal PITA to get off so I cut the hose and bought a new one. used my friends channel lock pliers to get the clamp off. should I run water thru my coolant system to flush Any crap out? our water is treated so there's not hardness issue

That and sometimes it binds up on itself making it almost impossible to get it to turn. When I drained the Intrigue to do the LIM gaskets, I bent the wings on the nuts and made it even harder. Given the choice, I'd pull the lower hose and not worry about it.
